I'm happy for my neighboring fellow smokers that the ban didn't pass. As far as the reason behind businesses in appleton being up with their LOCAL smoking ban....well no duh! Since appleton is hte ONLY smoke-free WI city, what's so surprising about revenues going up?
If WI had a state ban, then those revenues would go DOWN in appleton. Cause the nonsmokers would have more options to eat or drink at then.
Of course, a state ban would mean revenues in ALL WI hospitality businesses going down. But congrats WI for not having the state ban pass during 2008! Good luck next year though with making sure it STAYS a smoker-friendly state.

This ba$tard is a RHINO (Republican? HA! In Name Only!). Why do we need republican liberals when we already have democrats?
Hopefully Wisconsin will see what is happening in MN and ILL and not pass this. I have every hope that MN will be able to fight this ban. They certainly have a great start with the theater night and a lawyer on board. Jon Hemminghaus in Ill may have gotten something started with his smoke in at least I hope so. I would think that Wisc does not want the headaches that will go along with passing this ban in our state. I guarantee while I am quietly watching what goes on in other states if a smoking ban comes to Wisc I will no longer be quiet.

Thank goodness it didn't pass. What's wrong with designating a room just for smokers? Do we have to outcast all smokers everywhere?

Thank god that didn't pass, at least we can still smoke in peace. These bans are getting ridiculous...
