I saw a mailer that was sent out by Philip Morris the other day - they want to get smokers to write their legislators and protest the upcoming TAX increase. I suggest all smokers register here immediately:

Congress is proposing yet another tax on adult smokers. This time, it would raise the cost of cigarettes by $0.61 per pack.

Tell Congress enough is enough! Take action now. Fill out the registration form here to send your email to Congress today! Or call toll-free (866) 527-4494 to speak with your legislators.

The taxes are not going to stop smokers, other things will not be taken care of to continue affording the ciggerettes. They are addictive, the goverment admits this, there are numerous studies that indicate a less the 20% success rate stop smoking efforts. THe persecution has to stop. Tax the soda, junk food and games that are ruining the heath of children in a much more dramatic way.
The end of nicotine addiction is possible and can be done by attrition. Starting Jan 1, raise the legal buying age and do so every year. In 50-60 years us smokers will be gone (then who will they blame for the bad air?). The current 18 year olds will be the last generation of legal tobacco addicts. This gives the tobacco industry time to adjus and Americans can keep their freedoms.
Here is a new law- any one over 350 pounds can not buy chips, candy or cookies and have to park at the far end of the parking lot (they need the exercise) and seehow far that goes.

hey folks this additional tax is an add on to a bill #1893. this bill was originated by charles ringal from new york. Since when did NY decide what the rest of the country will do? the bill that includes this tax is called " the childrens health insurance program reauthorization act" can you believe that? on the face of it you think you are doing something good for poor kids and at the same time jamming an additional tax up our butts.LOL

tax their own habits. they are in our lives too much. they all need more tax money to pocket. too many in government doing unjust things and want us to pay for it.

Why don't they tax beer? I don't think it is right to target cigarettes all the time.It is about time to raise taxes on beer.

WHAT PEOPLE SHOULD REALIZE THAT ATTACKING SMOKERS BY GOVERNMENT IS ONLY THE BEGINNING OF LOSING OUR FREEDOMS IN AMERICA. ONCE GOVERNMENT IS DONE WITH ATTACKING AND RESTRICTING TOBACCO,WHAT NEXT WILL THEY TRY TO RESTRICT AMERICANS ON? THE PUBLIC SHOULD WAKE UP AND START RESISTING THESE ATTACKS ON OUR BASIC FREEDOMS.

Ben Pitts on Aug 05, 2007 5:17 pm

When I retired in 1990 I was paying $2.00 per carton of cigarettes. This week the grocery store charged me $40.00. And Congress considers that fair? Maybe those free spenders should distribute some food stamps for all the tax money they extract!

I agree with Sen. Judd Gregg all the way.

Earnie on Aug 03, 2007 9:42 pm

If they would legalize Weed and they would not have to worry about taxing all of us smokers!Everyone would be happy and the golddiggers can have there money and we get to smoke up in peace!

Don on Aug 01, 2007 5:10 pm

They get enough taxes now. Whose pocket is getting lined? It isn't the smokers'!

Sen. Judd Gregg on Jul 30, 2007 9:29 pm

Stop picking on the smokers. Start putting the tax increase on liquor. I haven't heard any increase for that product - why not!! Spread the tax increases elsewhere. The smokers have been banned from smoking at restaurants, planes, work places, etc. etc. etc. BUT DRINKING IS FREELY GIVEN TO PEOPLE in restaurants, planes, work, yet they can drink many drinks and get in their cars and have an accident - they are the ones that kill people. Have you ever heard of a cigarate smoker killing some while driving!!! Let's get real here. PUT THE BURDON ON SOMETHING ELSE.

I did register and have PM's Cookie email sent to my reps in AZ.

It is much better to send your reps an email in your own words rather than a cookie cutter response from PM.
