The MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) has decided to rate movies based on tobacco use. This is a group who has way too much control over the movie industry already, and now they found another reason to dictate our rights and morals.

LOS ANGELES -- Smoking will be a bigger factor in determining film ratings, the Motion Picture Association of America said yesterday, but critics said the move does not go far enough to discourage teens from taking up the habit.

MPAA Chairman Dan Glickman said his group's ratings board, which previously had considered underage smoking in assigning film ratings, now will take into account smoking by adults, as well.

That adds smoking to a list of such factors as sex, violence and language in determining the MPAA's G, PG, PG-13, R and NC-17 ratings.

Smoking should be a factor when determining ratings; it's already known that young adults exposed to smoking in movies are more likely to smoke themselves.

Even if smoking give a movie an immediate "R", why should smokers care? By law, aren't all of you people at least 17 years old (the age to get into said R movie)?

A non-smoker, but I agree, smoking adds a certian feel to the movie, much like the language. Smoking movies should not get a PG rating, but should still be allowed, just like language.

This is completly absurd! What's next, red meat? Maybe then they should ban Church on film. Or maybe since the actual existance of humans on the planet, harms the environment, we should ban humans on screen, then the only thing on the screen would be fictitious, fuzzy-wuzzy creatures who lecture us on how to be better people! Come on! Besides, last I checked, smoking tobacco was still legal. This comes from an ex-smoker by the way.
