SMOKINGLOBBY INITIATES ANTI-TAX PETITION
Online smokers' rights advocate smokinglobby.com initiated a new online petition today aimed
at state and federal government representatives. Intended to halt the excessive taxation on
tobacco, the petition will collect signatures to be sent to both state representatives and Congress.
The petition is available online at
http://www.petitiononline.com/smokers/petition.html.
"A very interested site visitor came to me with the idea for this petition, " recounts
smokinglobby.com founder Bill Williams, "and I thought we should back this kind of grass roots effort."
As a result, Williams states, the smokinglobby.com organization has decided to put its' resources
into supporting this petition.
Smokinglobby.com has been in operation for over 2 years now, operating as an online forum
for people interested in the smokers' right issues. "We get people coming to the site to discuss
both sides of the issue, " explains Williams. "but by and large most of our visitors are smokers
who are tired of becoming a social pariah."
The online petition is the dot com's first attempt at political activism. "We have traditionally limited
ourselves to simply providing a forum for discussion. But with the alarming rate at which tobacco
taxation is rising, we felt it was time to let our voice be heard in government." says Williams.
