I work @ UNC hospital in Chapel Hill NC, On July 4 2007 the hospital and any surrounding parking lots or leased area,by the hospital banned smoking for their employees and patients,visitors. They are telling us we cannot smoke at any time. They even want fellow workers to report their coworkers if they see them smoking. Some of us work 12 hour shifts. Thats a long time frame if you are a smoker. They are even saying they will make you clock out and back if you go to smoke. Although they say its entirely to far to walk it would take to much time. They say it is a new legislation
passed in June of this year that gives them the right to ban smoking, that it could not be presented as a discrimnation. That was included in the legistration. Isn't there anything we can do as smokers to get around this? They have even stated they could have you dismissed from your job if they see fit!!!They won't allow you to smoke during YOUR break time or lunch time.. How can they tell you what you can do own your own time..
What a injustice. Choice? I dont think so, well
they allow a woman to kill her unborn baby (by her choice),, but we cannot chose to smoke in designated area. FREEDOM JULY 4th 2007?
