hi! i work at a great bar in metro atl. we have decided to be a smoking establishment. since the bulk of our sales are at night when more ppl drink and smoke.
i am very sad to see some of our families go which were very loyal.
we are struggling as it is, does anyone know any resources where we can promote that we are a smoking establishment for patrons looking for a new wattering hole or simply just to support it? i fear that we will be end up closing our doors and with 4 kids, I can't afford to lose this job!
personally, i am not a smoker but married to one. too bad they can't ban fat ppl from eating mcdonalds "for their health"

I know you probably will not like my answer, but I think it is one of the few answers that can work.
First, this puts you in a very bad situation. The Government could force you into the unemployement line. It happens every day in Bars and Restaraunts accross the Country, when smoking bans hit town, and it appears no one gives a rats ass about it!
The Owner of your Restaurant/Bar is in even a worse position:
1. He could lose his entire investment, then what?
2. Who does he complain to, or voice his opposition to? The Government? Hell, it will be up to the County Health Inspectors (THE GOVERNMENT) to insure your Boss complies. Now consider that, the County Health Department can close him for Health Code violations at the drop of a hat. WOULD YOU VOICE OPPOSITION? Not me, not with a bundle invested that could fly out the window even faster then the ban could cause it too.
Who are your allies?
The Newspapers? Not likely. Newspapers across the Country have made MEGA BUCKS off of the additional advertising that these "Ma and Pa" operations after smoking bans have gone into affect. Many start advertising their "new" events (Poker, Bands, buffets) that they need to draw in more customers because the smokers have left.
One restaurant that I am familier with, in almost the same situation that you are in started a "family take out special" which is quite successful. The Owner creates income off of it, but the problem is, HE DOESN'T NEED HALF THE WAIT STAFF HE ONCE NEEDED. Take out only requires someone that can man a counter.
As you see, your plight is a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenerio.
I can see only one way to defeat this, and it will take organization and lots of work.
A letter writing campaing by other Bar and Restaraunt workers, expressing thier concern would be an outstanding start. BUT DON'T HAVE THEM INDIVIDUALLY SENT. Instead, get a couple of hundred or thousands and HAND DELIVER THEM TO THE GOVERNOR WITH THE PRESS IN TOW!
A couple of Mothers (waitresses) that come, with babies on their hips should send a clear message.
If you want assistance in writing such a letter, let us know on this forum. I am sure we can put our heads together to get a "kick ass" form letter completed.
Secondly, get your customers who are also upset with this to sign a similer letter. AGAIN HAND DELIVER IT DIRECTLY AFTER DELIVERY OF THE FIRST LETTER.
Make sure that the Governor knows that he WILL LOSE VOTES FOR BOTH HE (and this is VERY IMPORTANT), AND HIS PARTY, should the ban stand!

Pussys to scared to stand up... if you cant hack it in the beginning, why even start a business... if you loose it, to bad. start over with something else.
