Hey, I had noticed my Supermatic doing funny things, harder than normal to crank ( Still not bad, just not glass smooth), crank handle kinda wobbly, etc. Since I only crank around 150 or so an hour, it hadnt bothered me. When I saw Zippy at 375/hour, I knew I had to do something......
So, into it I ripped......hmm, everything looks good, the cutter was a bit dull, but nothing terrible. I then took off the crank handle nut and whoa, the plastic body bushing had broken into 3 pieces.

Looking at it, I cant tell if it had been dropped at the factory, or if this is a common wear item...... So I decided to make up a bulletproof bushing.
I took a 1/2"NPT SOW strain connector and used it for the main body. A little lathe work and it was ready for the UHMW plastic bushing to keep things nice and slippery......... I also made up a CAD drawing if anyone else wishes to make their own.

So, has anyone else had to replace the plastic bushing that the crank handle runs in, or does anyone else have a supermatic that the crank handle wobbles in?

WOW!

Now THAT is an incredible fix. I had heard of this happening on some supermatics, but never ran across it myself.

Good Job Pat!

Pat,

I'm working on the same fix. I figured that the problem was a design flaw.

I pulled mine apart to tune it up and the crank bushing disassembled.

I ordered three to have spares handy (cheaper than mailing the machine back for warranty work). After changing the bushing it didn't last a month til the wobble came back. I've got the pipe nipple cut to size but haven't
been to the bushing store to finish it up Wink
I'd thought of going with brass and drilling to size (starter or alternator
bushing) the plastic sounds like it will work fine with the steel to hold it together. Thanks fer the Idea! We keep it up and we'll have the machine that I thought I was buying to begin with Wink

Now to figure were to put the motor and the hopper Laughing Laughing
