Hi Guys:

I haven't posted in a while and for good reason: DC has big problems.

Last year RWJF came in here with $250,000 and tried to enact a smoking ban. They lost big time. Different scenario this year! They came in with $250,000, probably more. They targeted the gay community and the unions who both came out in favor of a ban with well organized letters-to-the-editors campaigns and sympathetic responses from The Washington Post.

Then, the arch defender of smoker's rights made a strategic mistake. She got into an argument with a fence-sitting member of the DC Council on another issue and offended him enough that he sided with the banners. Our defender, who chairs the Public Works and Environment Committee and has thus far blocked any ban legislation from getting out of her committee, has thoroughly browned off the head of the Health Committee who states that he will introduce ban legislation as a health issue. To make the issue even scarier is the fact that RWJF's money has produced a 9-3 pro-ban majority on the council as opposed to a 3-9 situation a year ago.

So, how does this affect you? Washington is a trophy city for RWJF. If they get DC, they gain a tremendous amount of momentum to get other cities and states.

Right now there is a discussion war going on BantheBan.org which makes our battles with Pillcutter, Raiven and others look like minor skirmishes compared to nuclear war.

I urge you all to get involved, not only on BantheBan.org, but if you have friends who are DC residents, get them to write scathing letters to the DC Council, The Washington Post, The Washington Times and anywhere else they may be heard.

This is serious [doodee]!

Forgot to add that the banner attack seems to be well coordinated. Am seeing mutliple responses at one time, particularly around 5 pm. It seems like there is a commitee meeting and then multiple responses come in at one time under several pseudonyms.

My advice is to first review what has been posted on the top 5-10 strings, study the pattern of attacks and then respond.

I've seen you guys in action and I know you can raise some hell for our side.

Please join the fray.

Hey DC:

I posted there but it is a tough place to post. Not easy to follow and no way to "quote" the others? I felt like a freeper!

Good luck, If I can lend a hand let me know.

Good posts! I know that with so many strings going, it is hard to keep up with them. But, again, this is the trophy city that could determine where and how fast bans spread.

Thanks for your efforts and any more you can provide in the future will be helpful and appreciated.

Zip, did any of the DC banners remind you of your lost pet, Pillcutter?

Naw, none of them had fleas.

They are a pretty dumb group though. Same scenerio over and over and over. When the argument fails, make a disjointed attempt to get it back on track. Boring to say the least.

What do you expect? They're all going by the RWJF script and not one of them is capable of independent thought.

Thanks again.

Glad to help. I echo Zip's sentiments about the quality of the posters - same old tired arguments, refusal to accept the truth, etc. We just have to keep up the fight.

I just cut loose with one of my Fire and Brimstone pieces at Banthban:

Here it is......

Quote:
Apparently you havn't been paying attention for very long.

As early as the late Seventies, Anti-Tobacco groups advertised this lil gem: "Second hand smoke causes more then 50,000 deaths each year"

Now, fast forward to 2005 and anti-tobacco groups play radio ads that say:

"Second hand smoke causes more then 50,000 deaths each year"

Now, maybe I am wrong, but since the late Seventies the smoking rate has gone down by half, and smoking bans, both Private and Governmental have increased smoke free facilities by a HUGE NUMBER, yet, after more then 30 years, NOT A SINGLE LIFE HAS BEEN SAVED.

Billions of dollars have been spent, bars put out of business for what? A total of ZERO.

That is not BIG TOBACCO, or Bantheban, or Smoking rights advocates admitting this, ITS THE ANTI-TOBACCO GROUPS!

50,000 - 50,000 = ZERO

GREAT JOB GUYS! and, you still get to keep your JOBS? Hows that work?

If a mass murderer ever cuts loose in DC, These MORONS would want Ted Bundy arrested!

Oh my lord, and it's these groups that want to tell business men how to run their businesses.

God help us all.....

I saw it. A good one which will send them back to their masters for advice. Oh, BTW, I am also posting there, under a different name.

Thanks again for the support.

Good pair of posts under the "Hookah's-" string. I posted just after your first. Oh, my God! Is this some type of "coming out event" for me?

Thanks for the support and great thought.
