Once again, the smoking ban failed in NJ. I'd like to thank everyone who wrote letters, and harrassed the NJ state legislature. That may have been the final push that was needed to change our legislators' minds. I'm very proud of all of our state representatives for resisting the temption of following our neighbors. I think I'll send them all letters thanking them now, and I encourage anyone else to do the same, becasue now all the antis are e-mailing them.

Congratulations, but remember to remain vigilant. The antis are like roaches, you know they'll be back again. My city council recently passed a smoking ban which we were able to overturn until a public election could be held. I guess we'll find out in September if tyranny will reign in my town.

Good goin' guys! But Irishguy speaks with wisdom. They WILL be back again like roaches but with more money and manpower from RWJF just as they have in our area for the past several years.
Go ahead and have a celebration beer and ciggie, you've earned it. But just remember that RWJF want to take them both away from you. |

That is awesome news! But according to the article, it didn't fail yet, it just wasn't put on a bill to be voted on. That still may be coming up unless some people get active to denounce it!

They were drawing bills up since the 90's on a NJ smoking ban. They seemed to be gaining momentum. The bill before this one had 5 sponsors, and the latest one only had 2, (the minimum). It seems that it faded away for now. I hope it stays that way.

It seems to be a myth that governor Cody is for the smoking ban. I got a letter from his office, and he takes neither side for or against the ban. He says contact your legislators, which I have already done, and they say they will spread the word. It's looking better, but keep writing.
