I dropped an email to both the Senator and Assemblyman of the 34th district.
We'll see about the response? |

I can not believe this! I am going crazy being bombarded with all this crap on the news! What a shame what this country has become.
If this ban goes through, I really do hope that the state looses massive amounts of $...I know that my friends and I will not be going out to bars and to AC like we do now. I wrote a letter but didn't get a resposnse. Can you send them an email?
Uuggg...this is so outrageous, and ya know what the worst thing is? For instance, I was at the bar last weekend and I'd say most of the people who were at the bar were smoking, but I bet that not one of them has bothered to voice their opinion about this. I attempt to explain what this really means but everyone just blows me off. Hopefully I am wrong and people have taken the time to stand up, but my experience has been that no one thinks they can do anything about it.
And I'm also sick of business owners using the defense that they will loose $, why don't they stand up for their private property rights and the right of the owner and customer to choose...those are the real issues! |

Yes, please do send your assemblyman an e-mail. Also, maybe your senator. Search here for your district. Tell everyone you know to do the same. If we don't write, there's no way for them to know that we care, we vote, and we believe a smoking ban is bad for the state. Keep in mind that this is a state issue. These are your local state representatives. YOu probably met one of them at your door at one time or another. They do care, they do read your e mail, and they do know that the people who write letters always vote and influence people how to vote.

Tom, perhaps it is time to copy the SADIreland gambit, and start working towards shutting down as much of the bar, restaraunt, and recreation business as is humanly possible. Instead of starting a seperate site as the SADIreland people did, we could just have our very own site administrator add state forums as they are necessary. It would be a great way to add smokers to our side, and would allow easy cross Nazi checking to help ascertain the leaders of their party.........
Anyway, I dont thinkl it will take but a few states to lose billions in revenues to get the antis shut off.
So, simple as it is, just say NO to dining out, just say NO to bar hopping, just say NO to going to the movies, etc. Do say YES to having lots of smoking friends over for Barbeques, or dinner parties, do say YES to having a coctail party at your house, lord knows, you could set up a regular schedule so everyone would know where to be at a given date. This might also galvanize new friendships, smokers in arms if you will.
Another possibility would be to simply form a SMOKERS CLUB, where the sole purpose is the have an association to give a place for SMOKERS to assemble. From this, you could either do the BYOB thing, or you could charge a nominal fee to cover costs.........man, there3s a lot we can do to light up their butts, we just have to get good and mad, and QUIT PLAYING FAIR. Rget fired the first shot, we must DROP THE NUCLEAR BOMB NOW. |

It didn't take long to get a response! I was kind of impressed that it happened so quickly. I emailed the Senator on the 15th she responded on the 16th and I received a letter (snail mail) on the 18th.
It starts off;
"Thank you for you recent letter urging my support of Senate Bill No.264 which prohibits smoking in the common areas of indoor public places and in workplaces throughout the state, except for certain physically separated areas and specifically exempted establishments."
Since bills are often amended in committee and on the floor of the Senate, I do not want to review the information regarding this legislation and see the bill in its final form. As with all of my constituents, I respect your opinion and appreciate you taking the time to express your views.
This is an important issue and I will definitely consider your ideas when making any decision on this matter.
Not much accomplished but at least I voiced my opinion! |

Am I interpreting this wrong? You wrote urging support of this bill?
Or did this twerp glance so hastily mistook it for a support letter? |

Yes Joe, you are! I did the same at first but when you read it it doesn't say for or against the bill, just urging her "support of", meaning to vote against! My letter was clear! I was opposed to it! |

I think you are mistaken Charles, I clearly think this idiot intends to support the damn bill.
Likely getting so much mail urging support didn't even read it but just rubber stamped the reply. |
