| That was NOT the real Nate. But I do agree with the sentiment - we do need to keep smoking in NYC to teach the pink-lungers a lesson. |

I was at a concert last night at the Bowery (Evan Dando, of Lemonheads fame), a typical now non-smoking NYC bar. A few people smoked of course, as they do in all bars as long as they keep it low-key, but there was a very heavy scent of ganga in the air. After thinking about it, I realized people have been smoking weed in NYC concert bars/venues for decades and noone's ever stopped that - who will actually stop smoking?
Everyone knows the situation - you smell marijuana in the air and you turn to someone and smile knowingly saying, "someone's smoking weed!" but you never actually try to stop them.
The same thing is happening with cigarette smokers. When we light up, people notice, but noone wants to narc on us. I smoked last night and noone said anything, so I will continue to smoke as usual in NYC bars. |

Why even patronize them? Punish them and boycott them entirely so they will complain to the city, this crap is spreading, now Phila is voting on a city wide smoking ban.
Or the other extreme may be effective- organize a smoke-in, civil disobedience, openly defy their smoking ban in overwhelming numbers. |
