That's right all..I went to order this morning from e-smokes, where i have been very happy...and it came back with a "were so sorry, we can no longer ship to your state" message...a bit befuddled, I called them and spoke to a pleasant lady who informed me that , yes, big brother has decided not to allow shipment to the state of Michigan...because we are subjected to one of the highest tax rates in our wonderful country..i love my country..and my state..just not the tax rate of over 55.00 a carton for cigarettes...i am so pee'd off...however...psst...indian reservations are not required to follow this...now Michigan will let all the damn casino's this side of Atlantic City to sprout up....but we horrible people who smoke...this seems like a violation of our civil rights, not to even offer to collect taxes, to just "stop shipment"...I understand Oregon and California also hit them too...just an FYI..much to my dismay Sad

Order from rons or something like that. You're wrong about your tax rate. It's $2.00/pack or $20.00 per carton. When you add the federal $3.90 per carton, that's onlt $23.90 per carton. You're the # 2 state in taxes. New York City pays the nations highest taxes though. In NYC the city adds $1.50 per pack to the state tax of $1.50. Total taxes in the city are thus $33.90 per carton. Most states don't allow municipal excise taxes. The only ones I know of are VA and NY. Maybe you meant a carton of cigs can cost up to $55.00/carton. Just remember people without cars or internet access in NJ and NYC have it worse than you.

I'll agree on Ron's, super service.
Looks like CT wants to double the cigarette tax, to 2.75 per pack.
Gotta balance that budget.
I always write my "representatives" and tell them to simply increase the tax to 1.5 billion dollars a pack, that way only one or two packs of cigarettes will have to be sold in CT for them to temporarily eliminate the deficit.

I felt that way when I first started MYO and realized how easy and cheap it was! At first I wanted to convert everyone I knew that smoked!

Once the gov't realizes they will try to stick it to everyone that has gone the MYO way.

You give the gov't way too much credit! Laughing
MYO is great, only way I would go back to buying pre-made is if they dropped the price lower than MYO, $aving $oo much money almost a$ cheap as quitting. Wink

Not really!
IMO if MYO gets big they will increase taxes on that also. MYO will always be the more affordable way but if the local governments look at the books and see cigarette sales down and loose tobacco sales up you can bet they will levy hire taxes on the loose tobacco.

I am just opting for the quiet screw the gov't course at this time.

Maybe, maybe not!
I think Tom has already discussed it on this site about contracting a tobacco farmer for tobacco.
I have seen how they cure tobacco in Lancaster with it hanging in their barns, where there is a will there is a way.
Wink I have got to be turning into a MYO fanatic, its almost a religious experience that makes you want to spread the word, MYO is your salvation from the tax man, MYO save and be saved, Halaluya, Amen!

Yeah, the party's over. CBS News just had NYC's Head Tax pol on and they are hunting for more revenue. Want that tax $. Want it from online cigs, want it from any online purchase. Even if you buy books or CD's or pots and pans or anything online, they want your $...they comin' fo' U. Cigs?...letters going out everyday. They figure the states are losing 50 Billion per year in internet purchases not taxed...and all those states gonna want their piece. Thats alot of cabbage. Cigs only account for 1 Billion by their #'s.

Ssshhh on MYO, they read this board. Within a couple years all the states will follow NY because in this crushing deficet-riddled economic time they are all tax $ hungry. Tax people can make anybody cave-in, they have alot of weapons in their arsnel and for many states-- punitive enforcements they don't even need a judge or a court. Most sate legislatures give them alot of unilateral power. Wanna fight them? Bring a very fat checkbook. And just keep writing 'cuz your lawyer is very adept at charging.

Online cig party is over, just a matter of time. Ya can keep posting your opinions, but its over. Just read the tea leaves.
