I doubt that dogs, lizards and birds live long enough to develope cancer from second-hand smoke. It takes like something like 30 or 40 years (so they say). A better test would be barmaids. I just got here last month from Germany. In Germany they still have some freedom left. A person can smoke in a bar if they damn well feel like it (not so here in California). There is so much smoke in German bars the rooms look blue. If second hand smoke was such a killer, why aren't all the barmaids dead?
On the contrary, 30-40 years is an extreme understement of wishful thinking on the part of the Anti's. A study done by the Congressional Research Service on bartenders & waitresses found that if they worked 40 hrs a week in a place that allows smoking, they "inhale" the equivalent of about 1 1/2 cigarettes a MONTH. Even if you are a "firsthand" smoker, any permanent harmful effects usually take at least 20 years of a pack-a-day habit to manifest, and in most people, it's much longer. With that in mind, if you do the math based on this study, a nonsmoker would have to go to a bar every night for about 8000 years before the dreaded "secondhand smoke" would affect him.

So, second-hand is nothing more than an annoyance? That's it? 8O

Then I say we should outlaw it.

While we're at it, people talking on cellphones - especially those damn Nextel ones - bother me. Outlaw Cell Phones. Don't they 'cause tumors anyway?

Loud music bothers me too. In the city, everyone has a "system" in their car. It pisses me off that I can't hear sirens over shitty music. Outlaw music in cars.

Sex. It 'cause more unwanted pregnancies than any other action Wink. It also spreads a lot of diseases. Why can't the government get rid of it? Besides, it's obvlously not for everyone, e.g. Priests, nuns, so get rid of it since it could negatively influence the minority.

Cars kill more people than any other one thing in the United States. Enough said - learn to walk and outlaw them. That would solve obesity in America too. Oh, and we should outlaw McDonald's and other fast-food restaraunts. They make us fat.

I think what's best for me is best for everyone! I know better and I think Government should take a proactive ruling and outlaw all these things that are societal demons in our lives.

Oh wait a minute....that's right - there is something called self-responsibility. How about you anti-smokers become more affirmative and stop be so judgemental.

Has anyone else ever noticed that those who strongly oppose smoking are either lacking self-confidence or they have a repulsive sense of self-worth?

And by the way, just to add credibility, dogs can't talk...but cats, that's another story.... Wink
