Today, I reccieved letter from Department of Finance NYC. I says that I have to pay sigatette tax for those cartons that I ordered on the internet sites.

The ammount of money they want me to pay is more then $1000.

Is there any possible way, not to pay this money, or at least reduce the payment?

Any suggestions???

Thank you?

Don't pay it and move out of NY.

Seriously, how did they arrive at their figures and where did they get the info on what you ordered?
More details please like how many cartons are we talking, did they review your credit card history, etc, etc.
I have read articles on a couple of other states who used the Jenkins act to force the carriers to roll on folks they delivered cigarettes to and they seemed surprised and pleased by those who just paid their bill.

Actually, you are supposed to pay the appropriate sales tax to your state for anything you purchase online only very few do.

As soon as I got wind of this Jenkin's law, I stopped ordering from a Va. based company who is using UPS and ordered from a Swiss Company using USPS who are not subject to state laws.

That seemed to work great until they started seizing cigarettes at JFK, now those creeps have 2 cartons of Marlboro that are mine.

I suppose the unpaid taxes could be compared to unpaid parking tickets considering it is the city not the state sending you the tax bill.
Where I live in NJ the only taxes paid to the city are property taxes, I certainly disagree that any city has the right to impose taxes on Cigarettes.

The link is dead.
Tom,
Can I assume you want to know what store to determine the source of info for NYC?
My thoughts exactly, was it a domestic based store or Swiss and who provided the info, the store or the carrier, is this a glimpse of the future for all of us who have ordered Cigarettes online?
Why is the city the first on the draw with the tax bill in spite of being the least entitled to anything?

Is this the company you dealt with? http://www.cigaretteoutlet.com/index.html

If so, they are a Kentucky chain and either the store or UPS gave up your info.

Today's NY Post

Any NYC smoker that votes for Bloomberg should not only quit but seek psychiatric care!

Bloomberg's office must be drooling over the list of names of customers who ordered from Cigs-4-Cheap-dot.com! 2,300 people and more letters are said to be going out.

I bet his office is diligently working at figuring out a way to gain access to all the Yesmoke customers information! That would be like winning the lottery for Bloomberg!

Hey guest, out of curiosity, what are your plans?
It Doesn't seem like folks have much of a choice except to pay up?

Does anyone think this tax bill could be beat?
