Not recieved order yet...but it's on it's way..
Anyone got any ideas on making a hopper for this premier. Seems like it would save a little mess and maybe a little faster.

Guest,
I use a regular old file folder which I put under the stuffer. Any spillage can then be picked up easily. (I move the stuffer off of it-pick it up by the folder by the sides-partially close it-all the spilled tobacco goes to the middle of the folder, than can be easily transferred to the bowl I am working out of.)

Works like a charm. I keep the cigarettes I made on a plate-after I tap a bunch-any loose tobacco can also be easily transferred back to the bowl as well.

That guest is making me hungry. I never tried golden harvest, but I guess it may be similar to marlboro. The "golden" probably refers to Virginia Bright tobacco, which marlboro's are high in. I use the same type of system that Pat does. I never waste any tobacco. It's a lot of fun. You have a nice sampler pack, mmm.

I tried the Thrust Premium Light, the Golden Harvest UL, McLintock Light and Number 2 light; I found the Golden Harvest was the smoothest and tastiest. I tried the samples on other folks I'm trying to talk into RYO and they all preferred Golden Harvest over the rest - I managed to convert one already.

I used a "critter cage" this is just a small plastic tank with perforated lid sold in pet shops and used to hold things like frogs or Betta's (fighting fish). I was able to cut an opening on the bottom of the tank to the same size as the opening where you load your tobacco on the supermatic. I then drilled holes in the supermatic and the tank to match. I used screws, nuts and washers to secure the tank to the Supermatic. The hopper easily holds enough tobacco for 2 packs of cigs. The tank is on very securely and beiing transparent makes it easy to work with. Of course this makes for less mess then loading up for each cig.

from what I remember somebody here provided a link to RYO magazine that showed a hopper being developed by Premier! I guess it will be sold soon?

I use a paper plate to catch my mess. My father in law uses an oven pizza tray.

The bali shag cigs last a real long time. They can last up to a 1/2 hour per cigarettte.

Ok, thanks, I thought it was a bit odd

It's a very different flavor. It's not for me, but I do like mixing a little bali shag in my cigarettes just to make them last longer.

I guess I dont really know yet, the bali shag was my first shot. I know I smoked european ciggies for the past 2 years, and was happy with the taste ( and less hacking ) I think I may hit bugler for my next can, they also stock several McClintock varieties. Has anybody bought it in bulk, I would say more of a generic tobacco? They have 1 Lb bags, which are more attractively priced, but I hate to waste most of a pound if they arent decent ciggies.

I definately go through more cigarettes now than I use to before I started rolling my own. Now I offer almost anyone I come in contact with a cigarette. There's no reason to be cheap when you're paying under $8.00 a carton. I just smoke a cigarette whenever I feel like it now. I don't really keep track of a number, but it's probably the same if not a little more. Now I don't feel guilty about leaving half a cig, dropping one on the ground, etc. With bali shag, you're paying a little more, but that's very special tobacco. There's little smell to bali shag. It doesn't give off much smoke for some reason. Bali shag and eclipse are perfect cigs for non-smoking buildings.

LOL, I am with you there, I think I have already got 2 or 3 converted. Though we dont pay the level of taxation you do, smokes here are 32-35/carton, and people are quickly getting fed up with our kings ransom.
I really dont count, and never worried about the cost, heck I would RYO now even if it cost more, simply for the other benefits. I just found with the bali, I didnt want any more, where as with the pre-made ciggies, I was constantly craving one, even the european brands.

Just out of curiousity, what exactly is the difference in taste of the bali compared to other tobaccos? It seems to me to be a very mellow, full flavored tobacco, but then, I am just coming off of the experience of smoking mostly filler manufactured ciggies

As always, thanks for your answers!

Hi Pat,
Welcome to the world of MYO. I haven't smoked a manufactured cig since I got my stuffer. It's kind of fun playing around with the different tobaccos.

Thanks, I appreciate it, and I have 3 packs of stinking Winstons that I have yet to give away, but thats going to happen today. I will never return to the boughten variety. I also want to start mixing and matching, but I need to get past the newbie stage before I turn into Dr. Frankenstein...

So far, I have tried Midnight Special, American Spirit Organic, and Vengeur Light, from cigarettetobacco.com

Just out of curiousity, are you looking for more of a light taste. or full flavored?

I liked the tobacco best from cigarettetobacco.com-but may move to primarily the Organic tobacco because at least I am getting no pesticides, etc in my smokes. The organic tobacco is more expensive-but I found it significantly cheaper on the net, than the local store charges for it. Even using organic tobacco-I am saving a bundle.

Yes, that is where I initially ordered evreything from, but the Supermatic was on backorder, and thats when I tried my local smoke shop. They actually were within 2 bucks of online, an I was stuffing in hours, not days. I will probably order some online, from them, and obtain the rest locally.

Actually, I can see the gvt. get stupid and inject a bulk rate tax to replace revenues, so I am researching growing my own tobacco, but thats for another post.

There's no need for that. We're already taxed on bulk tobacco. The beauty of it is it's taxed on the cost of the tobacco itself. In NJ, it's 30% of cost. That's nothing. We're taxed on the finished product when we buy a pack of 20 cigs, so that's where the sin tax comes in. Look at heating oil and diesel fuel. It's the same stuff, but taxed differently. Growing your own is a lot of work, becasue you'll have to flu cure some, air cure some, and sun cure some for the full effect. Growing's the easy part, but the curing and aging's tough. You'd have to have a 3 year running supply in your house. It's a great idea if you're retired, but it's too time consuming if you're working full time.
