Kansas. A state ban already passed by the Kansas Senate just passed the Kansas House yesterday(Thursday), and their gov has already said he'll sign it into law. I keep wondering if as much as I thought it wasn't a bad idea that some Kansas House lawmakers proposed(which was a state smoking ban modeled on Wichita's citywide ban, which exempts bars, any 18 and up business, and restaurants that built a physically separate smoking room), if it probably was a major mistake to include a provision overriding communities from having stricter smoking laws than this state law would've legislated into law.
Of course, it probably was more because of the fact antis had swayed too many lawmakers into supporting whatever state smoking ban proposals and other crap that was on their agenda, just like what happened in Illinois during the 2007 legislative session, when our state ban did pass. They(Kansas antis) have also been trying for something like a 50 to 75 cent increase in Kansas' cigarette tax, but that has yet to pass.....

http://primebuzz.kcstar.com/?q=node/21537 (limited voting scorecard on strict ban, this is only for House lawmakers in the Kansas City metropolitan area. I'll try to post a link to the full voting scorecard later from both the Kansas House and Senate sites.) |
