When I got this apartment, I was asked if I wanted a smoking or non-smoking apartment. I chose a smoking one, obviously. Now, nearly 3 years later, I get an anonymous note on my doorstep, threatening to take legal action, because allegedly, my smoke is traveling out of my apartment, through the common area, and into theirs.
What has happened to this country? Seriously. |

| I doubt if the anonymous writer can win a legal case against you because you are following the rules set out in your lease. They are probably just angry and think they can scare you into quitting. |

| More than likely. BUT depending on where you are at, they may win. I know out in ca, regardless of whether your lease allows you to smoke or not, if she/he complains enough they can get you forced out.. |

What do you expect from a state that elects Arnold Schwarzenegger as governor, based on the fact that he played a really good action-adventure hero in the movies?
Don't get me wrong. I love Arnold, especially in the Terminator series. But governor? Come on! Did boffing a Kennedy qualify him for public office? |

This is actually something I fear, and why I hang on to my house, even though, I don't need the space.I think that 75% of population would wish all smokers dead, and god forbid, if you are a smoker, you are going down!!! |

Hi, I am having this same problem. The neighbors have said that they can smell my cigarette smoke in their bathroom. Our lease does not prevent us from smoking inside, but when the weather is above 40F, I generally smoke out on my balcony. I am very aware of in door smoking issues, and was/am using an air purifier (ionizer) and exhaust fan, febreeze and a conscious attempt to keep my inside smoking to a minimum. I feel badly that they can smell my smoke, but don't we as smokers have the right to actually ENJOY a cigarette inside our own homes?! The only place I feel comfortable and relaxed when I smoke now is inside my car. We aren't bad people...just want to relax. |

Smoke can't travel through solid walls, so it has to be going through the HVAC ducts or bathroom exhaust fans somehow. I would try closing off whichever ducts you think the smoke might be traveling through, then ask your neighbor if that helped.
Someone really needs to invent a one-way HVAC duct that allows heat and AC to blow through while preventing smells from entering the duct. |

| Is that an appartment or duplex type home? IF home, then screw the guy. YOU own the place. |
