Why no, bad depression is not normal after quitting smoking so if I were you I would get myself to the nearest doctor and demand anti depressants asap. Of course they are expensive, you gain masses of weight, you can have a lot of other side effects and (this is the BEST part) THEY ARE ADDICTING, TOO!!!! That's right, try to get off anything like Paxil, Wellbutrin, or the others and see how far you will get. Like "brain zaps" when it feels like someone rubbed a high charged blanket across your brain? Well that can be arranged.

People talk about the horrors of cigarette smoking. No one dares to talk about the horrors of addiction to anti-depressants. That is just plain old wrong. Oh, and everyone I know who uses them is ashamed to talk about it for the most part.

Please don't tell me that they are not addicting. If you suffer bad physical and mental effects from quitting a substance, guess what----it's an ADDICTION! Duh, you can't say anything but that.

Yes, I have had people fight with me about that. Damned fools.

Anti depressants? BIG PHARMA. Trade in one pleasure for another worse one. Just about everyone I know who has tried to get off them has failed. Effexor. Very bad indeed. I would never ever use them. Never.

Quitting cigarettes is a walk in the park compared to quitting Effexor, and don't let anyone tell you any different. That is just a lie.

I think the fact that a lot of people believe prescriptions meds are a socially acceptable way to self-medicate, while smoking is not, has contributed to the apparently increasing prevalence of prescription drug abuse. Have you noticed an increase in celebs dropping off? Behind all this is just the innocent desire to feel better.

That's what is so perplexing about people's insistence that smokers are somehow evil, maybe even child abusers and definitely out to harm those around them. I don't know about anyone else, but all I thought I was doing by smoking was trying to cheer myself up a little. I never had any evil intent.

Most insurance companies pay very little for antidepressants, so the cost itself can increase financial pressure. You sit there expecting to feel happy, but instead gain 10 pounds and can't have an orgasm. I ask you, if men were the main recipients of antidepressant medication, would sexual dysfunction be considered an acceptable side effect? What were people thinking when they decided that increasing people's sexual frustration, making them fatter and draining their bank account would result in happiness?

Here's my take on this. A lot of people used to smoke in past generations. I remember reading that it was 50% of the population. Even though I'm a Gen-Xer I don't have a lot of respect for my generation or the ones that came after it. I think if we had to live like our parent's and grandparents back in the 30's, 40's or 50's, there would be a lot more respect. Everything's handed to people now so that they don't learn to take care of themselves or cope. Can you imagine a few whiffs of smoke throwing a twenty year old who'd just held his friend while he bled to death in WW2 into such a tailspin? I think not. I also think that any movement that would demonize half or more of an entire generation who on the whole were a hell of a lot better people than we are today is evil itself. It's smugness; it's arrogance, and an ocean would have a hard time filling the crater of contempt I have for it.

Great post Smoker Sympathizer.
The acceptance of the demonetization campaign against smokers by the overwhelming majority of the people involved in tobacco control around the globe is the most disturbing aspect We all face.
Smokers and nonsmokers alike.
