Yea, I read about that today...
You know of a good site where I can purchase some "PIPE TOBACCO" so I can Roll My Own? 
I have been smoking Marlboro Red's 72 for ever but they are costing me too much now and I am looking to buy some RYO so I can save some money, I am being TAXED to death!!!

I guess we all knew that it was just a matter of time before the secular progressives found out that you could actually smoke pipe tobacco in a cigarette. What I can't understand is just how many of us are actually making our own cigarettes?
I can understand why people would stop purchasing a pound of tobacco for $40 to $60 or cut down on smoking at $5.00 or more a pack, and this would of course lower tax revenues, but come on, there can't be tens of millions of us who make our own. Can there??
If there is a tax increase on loose cut pipe tobacco, then the grow your own revolution will thrive. Granted it is somewhat difficult, but it can be done on a small plot of land. I guess then they will ban growing your own tobacco, like prohibition really worked!
Give us a damn break will YA Washington!

The pipe smokers, who, by and large, have worked hard to seperate their high-brow tobacco consumption from that of the lowly cigarette addict (didn't hear of many pipe smokers who rallied against the huge hike in taxes on loose tobacco), will now get their turn in the barrel. The writing is on the wall. They better get braced for a huge tax hit on their leaf.
Seems the powers that be are none too happy about the smorgasbord of flavors available in pipe tobacco either.
I'll still stick up for the pipe smokers. I just wish they had stuck up for me. |

I hate to inform Mr. Myers, but this isn't about challenging the federal government. It's about avoiding unjust tax abuse. Apparently these people have never figured out the simple fact that human beings will not sit still and absorb the abuse of other human beings.
But then again, we can't expect unevolved life forms to think logically. They only recently emerged from the sludge... |

A second reading of one of those stories turned up this gem that I missed on the first scan:
But both the Obama administration and some in Congress say they'll try to come up with a distinction between the tobacco types.
So....they'll come up with some 400 page regulation that outlines, in excruciating detail, exactly what constitutes a tobacco that could, or would, only be used in a pipe? I don't think so. They'll just tax the hell out of it for now and address the flavorings in the near future.
I know that most of my smoking friends (and your's too I'm sure) started out with pipes because the flavors are so yummy. |

Another thought:
What's to keep the pipe and tobacco companies from colluding on a pipe and 'pipe-cut' tobacco combination that exactly (or very closely) mimics the cigarette smoking experience? I'm quite certain it wouldn't require some huge leap in technology to achieve.
Just a stray thought. |

It's a little bit harder to do that with a plant, but I'm sure people can find a way when there are millions of dollars involved. |

What I understand is pipe tobacco is processed differently and most have toppings and additives that add flavor and moisture. Something you don't want to take directly into the lungs. I read somewhere about 'English pipe tobacco' that doesn't use a lot of toppings or flavors.(Which may be what the 'pipe cut' is mimicking)
Generally speaking tobacco is tobacco - different plants will have different characteristics that the segments of tobacco enjoyment favor historically - Cigar-Pipe-Cigarette--Chew-Snus-Snuff.
It's the processing that apparently really makes the difference.
Hell, it could become very expensive to start smoking Corn Silk in the future.....
If someone would create a cross-species of Corn/Tobacco - can't you just see the regulations popping up all over the place?
