Welcome to the wonderful world of RYOT. If you have any questions myself or irishguy will be happy to help out a fellow smoker. Irishguy was my first satisfied RYOT convert about a year ago. .

Thanks,
I made my own years ago when the Laredo kits were popular but it got old real quick rolling for two.
My wife quit years ago so just have to roll for myself now and not smoking near as much having to go outside and all the other nonsense we smokers are subjected to these days.

Could you suggest a brick and mortar store that displays the RYO equipment where you can examine it?
They keep them behind the counter at CVS and from what I could see the only choice they carry is TOPS.

So something tells me YS is NOT clean at all. Look at their website. Weak. Very weak. This may have been a very profitable scam which they have been running. And some of us did believe their bull.

I did look around swiss news websites and came across the following article (in german):

http://www.swissinfo.org/sde/swissinfo.html?siteSect=105&sid=5413055

To summarize, the article says that the italian police raided the Messina brothers apartments they to have in that country, all in relation to some operation coded "internet cigarettes." Eight persons have supposedly been arrested in italy in connection with cigarette smuggling rings that reach to the Bahamas and the Cayman Islands. The Messina brothers would not comment on the raids on their apartments, and the article stresses that they don't operate in italy. It appears that "internet cigarettes" operation is more of an international nature (Interpol, etc.) and could be related to the JFK seizures. The whole thing smells fishy.

There was also a news video you can download (in german as well that advertises the new yesmoke brand but in the report they mention that the company is falling under the eye of both swiss and american fiscal authorities)...they supposedly used to send 15,000 cartons to the US each day(!):

http://real.xobix.ch/ramgen/sfdrs/10vor10/2004/10vor10_24112004.rm?start=0:16:47.756&end=0:21:22.723

I would predict that a new duty free cigarette outfit will sometime soon open in another country, but once the amount of shipments reaches a critical mass such that it involves sending plane fulls of cigarettes then they'll get busted again. I guess I'll make good use of the camel coupons I keep getting in the mail and never bothered to cancel and try to cut back...guess this is a good incentive to do so, but unless I hear otherwise I won't order duty free cigs again at least until the dust from all this has settled.

I have not received any letters yet, but, of coarse, I didn't order the large amount that you did. Im thinking that only people that ordered in the hundreds/thousands of dollars worth, will receive any kind of letters in the next few weeks. Are the credit card agencys agreeing to charge backs? I have not contacted them yet, but plan to do so soon. I hope they are getting our money back because Yesmoke is giving me the runaround with out any REAL answer...they seem to be giving me answers I already know, mass mails I think they call it..but, it does not tell me when I can get a refund..anyone who can, email me at badmojomn@juno.com...to see if the VISA group is getting the charge backs taken care of upon requests.

I have received a letter from Dept. of the Treasury, US Customs Service,Air Mail Facility,JFK Airport

I was wondering when this would start to happen!
Uncle Sam has his Christmas card list and it seems has officially started sending out cards!

If you must buy smokes in the stores PLEASE boycott Philip Morris! Honestly, everyone should start making their own and avoid paying the insane excise taxes!

I did post a message under the long yesmoke thread to see if anyone has received a notice yet. Did the letter say anything about penalties for this order if you don't do anything? Does it say anything about past orders or reporting the case to the State Tax Department?

Good question! A lot of people I know are wondering the same thing! IMHO, if the gov't wants our past CC payment history they won't have any problems obtaining it! The Patriot Act will be their excuse.

They can't prove $hit from our credit card statements. If they see charges from yespeedy on there, we could all just say we liked italian cooking oil that they sell, then tried their cigs. The fed govt hasn;t got a clue what was in those yespeedy skids prior to November. You will not be charged tax on previous orders. Don't worry about it.

Tom,
I thought you rolled your own? Did you mistype the y in "our credit card statements."?
Maybe you were just taking a break from all that rolling? Laughing

I looked into these issues some time ago before considering an order to Yesmoke (I never completely trusted them).

The letter from Customs is exactly what they they could have been sending for a very long time. Sounds like its chapter and verse a recitation of the law as written.

Once those cigs hit the US, the only thing "the importer" is really liable for is that there's a proper customs declaration on the package, and Yesmoke does provide that (the little green sticker in on lower left of the front). It even says Cigarettes in German. With a valid declaration, you can then pay the taxes and duty (39 cents/pack plus $1.00 per kilo) to get them back, and of course then pay the state taxes. But your Customs obligation is complete after about $4.00 per carton.

My CC company (a big NY outfit) hasn't yet applied the refund on my one envelope, I have a slight suspicion they might be waiting for those Customs letters to go out. Yesmoke looks like their not gonna' pay; Customs isn't sending the 'em back to Switzerland; so the onus will be on me to get them from New York.

Yes I do roll my own, but when I heard of the yesmoke brand I just had to try them. That description of top cut burley bright and turkish tobaccos blended the original American way made my mouth water, so I ordered one carton of yesmoke lights.
