It's always a good idea to check your aliases and e-mail addys on search engines to see what's up....ever go on Zillow.com? That site will freak you out.....try it!
I will definitely visit that site when I work up my nerve.

One job I was interested in was all over one of those boards - with names of people and allegations of harassment, stealing - all sorts of lurid stuff - it was actually quite comical how every different poster came on and spouted the same thing, with more and more details as the thread evolved- when I interviewed I told the person about the website I bumped into - they had no idea - it was a national company - completely clueless - I gave them the site name - I said - no thanks.....they thanked me for my time and that was that...
Do you suppose anyone got fired over what they wrote on the board? It was probably good for the HR people to see it, considering the legal implications of some of those issues.

Gilster, you have a good point. I would hate for my professor to find me on this forum. I deleted the essay from this thread.

Also, I went to Zillow.com and it was just a real estate site. What exactly am I supposed to find?

I removed the first quote, but hope that the second reply already had the correct system in place.

Zillow is pretty intrusive. Put your house address in the search engine and everything is there - square feet - home many bathrooms you have - how much you paid in taxes the year before, how much it's worth (relative). You can search around at your neighbors houses and see what they got, how much they paid, etc.....it has some pretty detailed information at your fingertips that would have taken hours in the past to find.

Everything is just so instant access now...

The birds eye views of your house is about as close as you can get at many angles - (if your street has 'google street view' -even closer.

I find it amazing how much info one can dig up if you look 'not that hard'

I know Zillow was not allowed to record for New Hampshire, don't know about other states.

It will record single family houses and I think up to three family apartments - anything else probably is classified as commercial property

What about setting up a member-only read/write subforum with no access to guests nor bots? Not perfect but google-proof.

You would have to contact Carlos about that. He's the Web site owner. I thought Google had access to everything on the Web.

I got nothing to hide. Search bots don't look through private forums, unless you allow them, and even if they did, the link to this forum would lead to a closed message.

The security is still reliant on members with access to that forum not c&ping the private members only access content to a public forum, but that's a matter of trust.

Is this a private forum? If it is, then I won't worry too much.
