Hi,

This Democrat Congress and the UnQualified UnPresident (where's the birth certificate?) are fascist all the way. Next week on Tuesday, they will vote the fascist healthcare bill out of committee and the GOP will vote against it. After all, not one amendment or change offered by the reps of half the country minus ONE were included in the bill. In a month after that, the Dem majority of ONE will vote it into law. And after that, if you don't pay, you are fined. If you don't pay the fine you are jailed and fined again. If you don't pay they will seize your property and sell it to themselves at auction.

If the GOP doesn't filibuster this fascist healthcare bill, I might have to start voting .357 caliber.

Bob

ps. democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch......bk

It is infuriating to think that people will be forced to pay for health insurance no matter what their personal circumstances are. If people will remember, there was only one significant difference between Hillary Clinton's platform and Barack Obama's platform in the Democratic primaries, and that was whether or not health insurance would be mandatory. Obama claimed his health care plan would aim for low-cost, voluntary insurance and Hillary said in her plan, buying health insurance would be mandatory for everyone.

Hillary starting losing primaries after that, and I think she realized that Obama had stabbed the other Dems in the back by claiming his plan would be voluntary and therefore, in her eyes, not universal. She knew she was screwed. Remember that one rant where she yelled, "Shame on you, Barack Obama!" That's where most of that rage came from.

Apparently Obama will say anything for as long as he needs to say it to further his political ambitions. Anyone who gets elected as president when they are only 47 years old has got to be arrogant and ruthless, but he looked like such a nice, clean-cut guy, no one thought very hard about that.

Check out this link for an example of an existing mandatory health insurance plan in Massachusetts, put in place by former Governor Mitt Romney.

Hi --

I guess I'll add another horror scenario to the mix. How much money do the governments make seizing property and fines on illegal drug users and dealers? Is it possible that making an addictive drug like nictine illegal will drive us all to the black markets and the property seizure laws will enable an even bigger wealth grab than they've gotten so far in taxation of tobacco?

Bob
Take heart. They can't make nicotine a controlled substance without causing Big Pharma to lose millions of dollars. Big Pharma would have to pull all their nicotine replacement products off the shelves, which I can't see ever happening.

The only reason smokers haven't rioted over the smoking bans is the fact that people have access to NRT and they can get through their work days and other activities without too much problem now. Without NRT, the bans wouldn't have sailed through the way they did.

Big Pharma has a lot more clout than local law enforcement officers who might enjoy confiscating your home to finance their operations. There is no doubt in my mind the drug companies will win any and all battles they decide to engage in right now.

To date, in this calender year alone, the drug war has cost approximately 40 billion dollars.

There is no way that the value of seizures made this year even approaches that. Just for perspective, that would be 200,000 homes valued at $200,000 each. The drug war is a huge financial loser for all of us.

Tobacco would be no different and gov't accountants at all levels realize this. When anti-smoking's antics begin to truly threaten gov't tobacco tax revenues, push will come to shove. It's already happening, though gradually. There are a lot of news stories out there lately about whining anti-smoking organizations, quit lines and the like, that are getting their state funding either seriously cut or axed altogether.

Someday this will all seem like looking back at the inquisition. Some of the damage however, will be permanent and I know it sucks to have to be living through this in our time.

Government doesn't pay that, they spend it and collect it from us.

Isn't relevant. I've talked to many police officers who have bought cars, boats, houses and they don't care how many taxes are taken from the public to fund it, their personal wealth increases.

That reminds me of the story about Tonto and the Lone Ranger looking at 10,000 Indians coming over the hill to attack. The Lone Ranger says, "Looks like we have a problem here, Tonto." And Tonto replies, "What do you mean 'we', white man?"

What do you mean "us", taxpayer?

A certain segment of the population is enriched and they aren't paying the price either.

It could be that as in history, tobacco will "come back" and this will all seem like a nightmare. After all, in the history of tobacco (I think I posted a link before, but here it is again -- http://tobaccotalk.myfastforum.org/forum8.php ) it appears that tobacco has had a determined attack on it about every 50 years since 1600. However, when they made pot illegal, it was at the end of a similar campaign of demonization. We have to fight this battle over and over. They only have to win once.
