The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday began collecting millions in fees from the nation's tobacco companies to help fund the agency's newly granted authority to regulate the industry.
The user fees, which will be collected quarterly, are based on each company's share of the U.S. tobacco market. The FDA will collect about $23 million for fiscal 2009. That will rise to $235 million in 2010 and grow to $712 million by 2019.
Nothing in this story about how much BT will be raising their prices or when, but it is a given that they will pass this on to their customers. I'm sure it will be gradual and not subject to much fanfare since it's really not a tax.
.712 billion dollars per year by 2019? Eeegad! |

| That gives us plenty of time to improve our gardening skills to the point where we don't need either the tobacco companies or the government. These people believe we have to depend on them forever. We don't. This is a new day and age, and any person who is interested and has access to the Internet can find all the information and resources they need to free themselves from the tyrrany of other people. |
