That cup of coffee is not saddled with three dollars worth of excise taxes. Imagine what would happen if the legislators decided to start putting 500% taxes on every activity they want to discourage. There would be anarchy. All of a sudden, non-smokers would get it. |

I think punative taxes are a form of tyranny. Who is the governement to say what should be discouraged and what should not? I for one would like to see a 1000% tax on green leafy vegetables so the health nuts would shut up about them. I partly jest, but to tax something at a higher rate just because it's deemed "improper" for some reason is insanity. Everything becomes fair game at this point because their is nothing out there that is not objectionable to someone. That's why I have a very hard time tolerating people who say we should "tax the hell out of" whatever. I say let them tax the hell out of these people, who obviously have no respect for anyone else, and leave our wallets alone.
For those who say to stop complaining about these abuses, and that much ado is being made about nothing, I can't help thing of Lando in Star Wars who made a deal with Darth Vader. When Vader did something that wasn't part of the deal, and Lando called him on it Vader said there was a new deal, and to pray that he didn't "alter it further." |

| And it does at times feel like the empire is in control with the way they keep pushing their "new deals". |

To any non-smoking do-gooder out there....
Next time you see a smoker, don't turn your nose up at them in disgust. THANK THEM. They are funding the S-CHIP program for children's medical care! What are YOU PERSONALLY doing to help?
Now, as far as these new pictures they are going to put on every pack of smokes, I have an idea!
Those that still buy.. even if you don't and can get one or two to keep your RYO in.. take them with you wherever you go and put them out in plain sight (especially in restaurants!) so EVERYONE can 'enjoy' the view! We'll see how many people throw a fit over that!!!! |

We will probabily get banned from entering places with the packs then. |

The general public believes that behavioral control through taxation can't be applied to them. Unfortunately, it can be applied to any activity.
In some cities, the legislators have tried to curb traffic congestion in downtown areas by charging fees to drive there at certain times of day. It works, and that's all that counts to the legislators. Never mind the people who can't avoid the fees because they work or do business in the targeted areas. Their opinion doesn't count. |

It would be even better to rent billboards with the photos in high traffic areas, and add photos of the state legislators who voted for the law, customized for each state. That might make the legislators pause next time they are deciding how they will vote on something like this. I think the voting public definitely has a right to know who exactly is responsible. |

Leave the empty pack in a prominent places; library, grocery stores, stop signs(if the pic is large enough) park benches, etc.
Keep them neat, don't crumple them up.
Or cut out the pic and 'post-it-note' them where you see fit.
I hear kids collect and trade these things in other countries that already have the pictures.
Maybe set up an Ebay account for trading |

Yup. The congestion charge in downtown london did NOT significantly reduce the traffic according to their OWN figures... BUT it did rake in a lot of cash!
And i love the billboard sign idea |

I thought there were evil tobacco company trolls lurking everywhere, ready to snap up my ideas and hand them over to the Mafia or other organized crime ring for implementation. That's the whole reason I post here.
If any of you tobacco company execs are lurking here, you know what to do.
Just kidding ... but not really ... |
