It was one of the most successful topics on facebook. It had around 800,000 members with an active and very informative comments section - Every anti that went on there spouting their bile was sent off with their tail between their legs - they could not compete on evidence, logic or even common sense. It was clearly a threat to the anti-smoking movement - have they managed to censor it out of fear?

I have been able to access the opposing group that was set up at the same time (ie those who DONT want smoking back in pubs) easily enough, so it is just the 'DO want smoking back in pubs' topic that has gone astray.

There is a blog that introduces both the topics here;

Might be worth a few comments!

I also see that there have been numerous new topics with the same or a very similar name that have popped up on facebook.(just search new topics under the name and you will see what I mean)

Being of such a suspicious mind - Could this be a deliberate tactic by anti-tobacco to split the opposition into even more fragmented groups than they are already?

It is also worthwhile considering that the Government's review on the smoking ban is only a few months away - if they can show - by underhand means, that there is not much support for a relaxation in the smoking ban then they have a better chance of retaining this despicable law. It is up to us to do our best to fight the b**tards as often as we can!

We now know that the anti-smoking movement have set aside £ millions to target facebook and similar sites - this is an obvious first step in spending that money and then they will be free to spread their propaganda by saturating other, less frequented pro-choice sites, with anti smoking rhetoric and they will be able to quell dissent and drown out the pro-choicers by sheer numbers.

My best suggestion is that we encourage all of our friends to encourage all of their friends to join a single distinct group, and avoid all the copycat topics so discussions can continue in one main centralised group."

WTF... If that is true, that the antis have gotten facebook to stop it, i for one, would put a call out for everyone who smokes to not only boycot facebook, BUT every company who supports it. LET our voices be heard damn it!

infinitethoughts, can you fix the link to the blog?
It's broken here and at the other forum and I can't find it in Google.

The second post from the bottom talks (by Kin Free) about why the Pro wanting smoking back in bars may have been deleted.

Turns out the organiser of the two Facebook groups Pro and not Pro wanting smoking back in clubs may have deleted the Pro group, and not Facebook.

But there are still questions why they did that.

Here's the original page of the Organiser for both sites. (Pro and not Pro.)
