First of all, this does not concern smoker's rights, I just didn't know where to post it. So feel free to move this post or delete it.

I'd been smoking with some degree of regularity for about a month and a half now, I had always either smoked my cigarette very slowly down to the butt or quickly just smoked about half of it. This had left me with feelings of euphoria, colors were brighter, and I was slightly dizzy.

Yesterday I went outside on my lawnchair, and started smoking a cigarette, I was smoking and American Spirit. American spirits typically take 9-10 minutes to smoke but this time I sucked it down in under 2 minutes, taking long drags, breathing in deep, and holding it in long. Big mistake. I got up and couldn't even walk back to my house, which was only like 15' away, without falling down. I get inside and eat some chips, still very dizzy and want to pass out. Then I get up and run to the bathroom to vomit. My face is flushed.

Now it's the next morning and the dizziness has finally subsided, but I still feel a little nauseous.
Any advice for avoiding this experience besides quitting? Is it just because I smoked the cigarette too fast, and held the smoke too deep?

2 minutes to smoke an AS cig? - that's way too quick.

Do you know how to inhale? I'm not being flip, but, if you are new to cigarettes you might be doing it all wrong...most people don't smoke a cig like a joint[trying to get as deep a lungful as possible and holding it]

Also, if the amount of cigarettes you are smoking isn't a large amount and you are getting dizzy- you might want to check your Blood Oxygen Levels at the doctors.

Also, check the pack - if you are smoking a FSC cigarette, and you previously haven't, you could be allergic to the additives.

Yeah I know how to inhale lol, suck the cigarette like a straw, take it out of your mouth, and take a breath. At first that made me cough, but now it's a very satisfying feeling. I love feeling the smoke go down my throat. I wanted to know what it was like this time to get the most nicotine in my system as possible, I guess I shouldn't ever do that again. So is the correct thing to hold it in your lungs as shortly as possible?

An interesting thing I've found about cigarettes is, when I smoke wacky tobaccy I can function perfectly, on cigarettes however I can't do anything, I feel dizzy and have to lie down for a while. This is the opposite of what most people would think would happen.

Should I build up to smoking the cigarette down to the butt? I feel like if I don't smoke it down to the butt I'm wasting money.

Any tips on smoking properly are welcome.

Check your pulse by placing your index and middle fingers over the outer edge inside of your wrist on the opposite hand. between the center tendons and the wrist bone.
Is your pulse weak?

It could be the 24 hr. stomach flu or bad food/food poisoning, but if your vomit is maroon colored or pinkish or red and watery, or yellow to orange and harsher than you remember from the past, then you might have an ulcer and you need to see the doctor. You will also get that kind of vomit if you drink too much Gatorade or colas containing phosphates or phosphoric acid, and again it indicates a stomach condition. If that's so and your vomit is harsher than in the past or burns when coming up, then you might not be digesting food due to it and you might be getting dizzier than you should because you are starving due to a stomach condition. Even though you eat, the stuff in your stomach is blocking digestion, enzymes, fouling electrolytes (necessary salts), etc. Or you've been skipping meals and need to eat, but not if the vomit is off-color as stated or harsh. For that, you need a doctor.

You might also have an ear infection with vertigo. Make sure you haven't suffered an insect bite in or around one of your ears, and carefully try tilting your head to one side and then the other side, but make sure to sit down before trying this. If you have vertigo from any cause, insect bite or infection, tilting your head to an extreme angle may induce violent dizziness. If violent dizziness occurs, then lay down and relax. Don't move until the dizziness disappear, but call a doctor and if possible have someone drive you to see him/her.

I've had ulcers and sometimes I get sick like that when I haven't been eating foods with enough fats, oils, table salt, or vitamin C. I nearly died eating fat-free food. Some fats and oils are necessary and essential, just like vitamins. Just don't overdo it, but be sure to get some.

You said your face was flushed. Have you been taking niacin tablets?
Too much niacin will cause that, especially if you drink coffee or tea and have a cigarette immediately after taking niacin, in which case I would quit taking the niacin and any vitamins stronger than 100% of the daily allowance, and I would probably not use those strengths either because vitamin and mineral tablets like zinc are toxic in doses higher than normally found in natural-source foods.

I've gotten sick eating Total cereal during my ulcer phases.

Sounds to me like too much nicotine at one time. When I was a teenager same thing happend when I thought you were supposed to inhale cigars. Ha !
(Ahhhh......... the stupidiy of youth.)

American Spirits have more tobacco then others. So slow way down, that should work.

The thing about Nicotine is, in regular small dosages its healthy for you. But up the dosage and it's not. Thats why chain smokers have problems.

Also look into lighting from a non-hazadous fuel source. (Lighter fluid in lighters.) Use matches, Altho I've noticed I can't find matches that arent coated with some sort of lighter fluid.

One other thing. Sometimes it's not the tobacco as the first cause but something else. Like someone using Tide for laundry and the chemicals in Tide waft over, or fumes from car exhaust from being in High density traffic corridor, etc.

Hope this helps.

This is exactly what happened to me when I smoked a cigar, even when I took my sweet time with it. Never smoking a cigar again lol. I still get light headed when I smoke a cigarette and I find it pleasant. I could never be addicted, if I try to smoke too fast or have more than one any time close to eachother I get very light headed and wanna vomit lol

Well, now you know not to do that anymore...lol.

In being conscious on how I smoke just now, I take a drag into my mouth, pull the cig away and then suck it into my lungs. Easy breath in and out. [it's weird describing what is natural]

I have a feeling you are smoking cigarettes the same way as you do pot - very deep into your lungs - that can't be good.
If you are feeling dizzy with cigarettes you probably shouldn't smoke, if you want nicotine [or think you do] chew or use snus.

Your body will tell you what you want/need. I carry small folding scissors on my keychain - if I only have time for 1/2 a cig I cut it and smoke later.

Out of curiosity - how old are you? I started when I was 18. [too many years ago]

I have not ever taken Niacin tablets.

Thanks for all the advice, guys. The main point of advice I think is just to slow down. I won't be speed smoking again.

BTW, I bought my AS cigarettes like two weeks ago, I've been keeping them in a cool dark place and occasionally taking them into the shower with me so they get a little moisture, and I haven't noticed any difference in taste or harshness. Is that unusual?

A little moisture in the tobacco is usually good. That's why cigars are kept in a humidor, in order to maintain moisture, but only as long as the moisture does not produce mold in the tobacco. Moldy tobacco is not good.
