Hi, I don't think many people know this because it seems to be kept very quiet. However, I will shine light on the truth about FSC cigarettes and why they are so much worse than normal cigarettes. No, this isn't just in your heads, there is a very good reason why they are bad.
All you need to do is take a look at US Patent #6854469.
Basically, what you didn't know about FSC cigarettes is that they are produced by adding bands of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA; a common plastic) to the rolling paper of the cigarette. You can actually see these bands on FSC cigarettes.
What this means is that our state governments are requiring us by law to inhale the fumes and chemicals given off by BURNING PLASTIC when we smoke FSC cigarettes. Online petitions won't do anything to get these laws repealed. This needs to be taken up with the tobacco companies. I have drafted a letter to Phillip Morris with my suggestion as to how to go about getting these laws repealed. I am not the world's greatest writer nor am I of any official legal standing so my wording might not be the greatest. It would be fantastic for you guys to post your suggestions and edits to the letter I have drafted. I want it to be very professional looking and sounding when I send it. Also feel free to bring this up with your representative official in the government as well, and contact the tobacco companies as I am doing. Anyway here is my proposed letter: |

Hello, I would like to take this opportunity to provide what I feel is a very good suggestion to get Fire Safe Cigarette/Fire Standards Compliant cigarette laws repealed. Based on US Patent 6854469, it is my understanding that FSC cigarettes are produced by having bands of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA, a common plastic) on the rolling paper of the cigarette.
So what this means is that our state governments are mandating that we now inhale the vapors given off by burning plastic when we smoke our cigarettes.
My suggestion would be to include a very visible notice on the outside of all cigarette packs that reads something similar to "IMPORTANT -see enclosed slip", and then inside all the packs have a slip of paper detailing how our state governments are requiring by law that cigarette smokers must now inhale the fumes of burning plastic when smoking cigarettes. Also mention that the people making these laws have no regard for the potential negative health effects of FSC cigarettes because they are nonsmokers. It also wouldn't hurt to mention that one must take more frequent hits with FSC cigarettes to prevent them from going out, causing people to smoke more than they otherwise would.
It would also be my suggestion to contact other major tobacco companies and all agree to do the same thing. I feel that this would anger a very large number of people -- even nonsmokers, to the point where the complaints would become enough to get the laws get repealed, or at the very least, it would make the state governments look very bad for doing this. Presently, the fact that FSC cigarettes have plastic on the rolling paper seems to be kept very hush hush. I believe that exposing it as much as possible would be the best way to get the laws repealed. |

Got damn. How the fuck is this legal? I went ahead and e-mailed Philip Morris, and I would like to e-mail RJ Reynolds, but they only have snail mail contact info. I may go ahead and mail the letter.
There has to be more we can do than just sign online petitions. Why hasn't this been brought up in court? I mean surely there are hundreds and even thousands of lawyers out there who smoke. I just started smoking recently and this is really pissing me off.
I have considered rolling my own cigarettes, but pretty soon the PACT Act of 2009 will pass the senate and getting any form of tobacco in the mail will be illegal, which would severely limit my options for obtaining quality cigarette tobacco.
But I digress. This is about FSC cigarettes and what can be done about them! We really need to draft a letter professionally outlining the truth about FSC cigarettes which we can send to our congressmen and representatives, and gather more people to do so as well. Since cigarettes can now be regulated by the FDA, we should also draft a letter to them as well. |

One of the properties of EVA is that it melts (turns liquid) before it burns. And I have been noticing that while FSC cigarettes are burning, a few millimeters back from where the ash is on the end of the cigarette, there are what appear to be liquid stains on the rolling paper. Is this the EVA that is being used? I've taken two pictures that clearly portray what I am describing. Here they are:

Nothing is going to happen if we sit on our laurels (other than the laws eventually becoming effective in all 50 states). We need to organize and make the FDA aware of this since they now have regulatory power of tobacco products and we need to file complaints explaining all these issues in full detail to our state representatives and congressmen. And as I've said before there must be hundreds or thousands of lawyers who are smokers who need to come out of the woodwork here.
I'm not of any legal standing nor do I know jack about law, and I'm a terrible person to form groups against this. I need help. |

That staining is bizarre, is that on all FSC cigarettes?
I'm going to have to look around at others' cigarettes this weekend - I've never seen that before. |

| I definitely understand that EVA in cigarettes is a bad thing but according to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cigarette#Manufacturing) the glue holding the cigarette together is PVA. So isn't PVA bad too? |
