| no wonder they wont outlaw tobacco outright, its worth to much and when the govmnt sees that the blackmarket is takign away their [profits]revenues they will repeal the high taxes and repeal the smoking ban prohibitions.......The way things are looking for the revenues for the govmnt and all there over spending and printing money like they did in 1930 to stave off economic collapse we will indeed see tobacco as the SAVIOR not the devil.....just for historical knoeledge the great depression was caused when the FED had to recall 1/3rd of the currency they had overly printed because of the dollars falling value.......think about it,its just around the corner. The fed has printed up 256% more dollars since last fall when all this shit hit the fan.... |

| I forgot which city it was up north, but when i was in Columbus for the Origins Game Fair that ended sunday, i read in a USA today newspaper that this city did a quick study. In the past year sinc they put iirc 75C state tax on smokes, they have seen a 48% reduction in smokers buying WITHIN the state, and going out of state to get their smokes. Now cause of the reduction in income, they are looking to put another 75C tax on them. BUT one of their legislatures say that is going to make even more go out of state, and should be the warning the state needs to actually back down from increasing taxes... |

| I think it is the opposite, since they are wanting to put MORE taxes on their smokes, thereby forcing more to get them out of state. |

We also were at a fireworks display Saturday night. Small lake, surrounded by hills. Smoke everywhere. Hundreds of people. No one said a word when I lit a cigarette
It was a great display too! |

Just when I thought I couldn't get more disgusted with the anti's I find this thread. I swear I must be a masochist because this is just painful. 3rd hand smoke, really? How are these nuts able to get away with this crap? It's because no one calls them on it. Wonder how they would react if every smoker who lived in these crazy states filed a multimillion dollar lawsuit against the state for libel, slander, pain and suffering and every business owner whose business went bad because of these idiotic bans did the same. I'm not even a smoker and I am sick to death of smokers being pushed around. I don't know what a smoke free state is, but if I had to guess I'd say it's something ridiculous like no indoor or outdoor smoking in public. Where the hell do these people get off? I'm a non-smoker and they sure don't speak in my name. I wouldn't let them near me.
Smokers should start forming their own versions of speakeasies, private homes or clubs where fellow smokers can enjoy a meal and a cigarette in a dignified setting. If these sprung up all over the country, it would be a kind of subcultural support network for smokers. Is there anything out there like that now? |
