I couldn't care less what happens to this country any more. Sorry, but that's the way it is. My caring stopped shortly after 9/11, when the nazis barely took a 24-hour breather following the fall of the towers before it was business-as-usual again. I read in the new york papers where they complained about photos of the cops and firemen on the front page with smokes in their mouths. They insisted future photos be airbrushed to hide the smokes, saying "Smokers must not be shown as heroes." It was at that point I stopped caring.

I don’t blame you. I feel totally alienated myself. The psychological damage inflicted on smokers is really worse than any physical disease people might get from smoking.

I saw a documentary one time about a group of people who were living out in the desert, totally outside of the law and government control. They had their own laws for their little community, and that was it. All the people had disappeared from the radar screen of normal society. It’s surprising that smokers haven’t all just wandered off into the desert like that.

It's more than just smokers-it's inflicting psychological damage on the COUNTRY. I've said for years-think about this for a minute-if world war 2 were fought TODAY, instead of when it was-we'd lose. Smokers wouldn't give a shit since they are no longer part of society, and there are MANY americans who would admire Hitler's war on smokers, and his regarding of health as God, sympathizing with the axis powers early on. Many more than you think. Your own neighbors would be secretly contacting the fifth column (spy movement that was in this country)and turning people in, or betraying their government, including military secrets if known.

Well, it's not hard to see how all that happened with the Jewish people and the Holocaust. People think it can't happen again, but human nature hasn't changed. There's still an urge to claim superiority at the expense of some other group. All it takes for that to grow and flourish is just a little reinforcement from the government and society in general. It doesn't take that much to fan the flames of mass insanity.

All the World War II veterans are dying off, so soon there won't be anyone left who remembers from personal experience what the world was like during the Holocaust. WWII veterans are in their 80s now.

I don't think there will be any need to kill people off though. I think it will all end up like the movie "Gattaca," where parents only give birth to children after carefully selecting embryos with a socially approved set of genes. I always thought that movie was prophetic.

I know from chatting to my gramps and some of his vet buds, that a big factor in their good morale which led to doing better on the job, was all the smokes they were GIVEN. Yes GIVEN. Not sold. Heck, when deployed, we have to go out to special smoker hutts to even light up.

Well, it passed. FDA regulation of tobacco is now a reality, with the full support of Phillip Morris.

Supposedly the holy grail of all this is the discovery of a safe cigarette, which would allow both the tobacco companies and the government to keep money rolling into their coffers.

Safe cigarette? You can almost hear the sound of all the antismokers' panties rolling into a tight wad.

PM not only supports the bill, they helped to write it in conjunction with CTFK. Now why do you supppose PM did that?

This article contains more info about Phillip Morris' support of the bill, which basically locks in their current position as market leader.

I'm wondering if this bill will pave the way for gory cigarette packages in the US. That will give the antis a chance to reveal their sick preoccupation with graphic images of disease. No one with a normal mind would advocate the widespread circulation of stomach-churning medical photos.

Here's a link to the list of senators and how they voted, if anyone is interested.

The way around viewing the upcoming gory pictures on your cig packs, is to start saving your current empty packs and simply transferring your cigs to the saved packs. I saved all my empty cig boxes to put my RYO in.

Think about it. If all smokers did this, it would drive antis crazy to see the old boxes everywhere instead of the government approved boxes.

You have to wonder who would give permission for their photo or a family member's photo to be plastered on cigarette packs for all the world to see. Most people would not want a photo of their medical condition displayed in public, especially considering the amount of shame inflicted on anyone who gets a "smoking-related illness."

I suppose they could wait until after the person's death or after there was no one left who might recognize the person. Otherwise, the person in the photo would be like a modern-day Hester Prynne from "The Scarlet Letter."
