Where is the difference between smokefree and equal accomodation? Smokefree insists on building ONE-WAY highways, and equal accomodation insists on building TWO-WAY highways. Adequate ventilation, exhaust fans, heating/cooling units that move enough air and filter it well, and customers being able to read ANTI-DISCRIMINATION SIGNS are all building blocks useful in constructing a TWO-WAY highway.

I agree. There is such a huge difference between smokefree and equal accommodation. I learned this the hard way when I attended a meeting in Boston this past February. I had really never stayed in a city with an across the board hotel smoking ban and it was a real pain in the ass. Normally we would just try to find a hotel with smoking rooms but since there are NO accommodations in Boston for smokers, we stayed in a smokefree hotel.

Instead of enjoying our stay we spent most of our time standing outside in the freezing cold. There was an exit next to our room but you could not reenter through the same door. So in order to get back in we had to walk about a block back to the main entrance. Since we had rented a car we couldn't smoke there either. All in all it was a miserable experience. Although Boston is a nice city we will not be going back to a place where we have to pay 250 a night only to spend the majority of our time standing outside in the freezing rain.

The biggest roadblock to the 2 way highway is TOLERENCE, and UNDERSTANDING.

Antis feel that smokers should bow down to them and only their feeling are important. They don't have a clue about what smokers go through and don't care. They will not change their attitude even though it is proven to them without a doubt that SHS is harmless to them. As long as they have this holier than thou power it will be the same always.

Very true. There are a few areas i have let known because of their draconian laws against smoking, i won't ever visit again, nor will many of my friends. And 2 branches of hotels are permanently off limits due to it. Twice i have booked a smoking room, paid, and got confirmed, only to be told when i got there, they were non smoking only through out. AND I got nothing in compensation.

This is exactly what I am talking about. If they book a "smoking room" and cannot provide the service at the VERY LEAST they should offer an apology and room upgrade. As it stands they are more than willing to take your money and offer nothing in return. (sarcasm --->) I mean really we filthy smokers should get down on our knees and thank the hotels for allowing us to pay them to treat us like second class citizens. Grrr...

I cannot remember the hotel, but i managed to get one added to the prohibited places on the san diego base list for a while due to this and other sheiit practices (such as claiming they give military discount, but actually jacking the price up 25%).
