After spotting a "staged" picture in our local paper, I contacted the editor and received a not too nice response from one, Ron Bristow, referring to smokers as dirty and lazy, etc.
I retaliated with an email stating some facts about air pollution and received the following email from him:
There are two things that all drug addicts have in common, (tobacco users among them). They live in a state of denial and justification. They deny that what they do is harmful and stupid, and they try to distract attention away from what they are doing by citing something that others are doing that they believe is worse. Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of death to human beings, more than any other cause known to mankind. More people die in this country of smoking related disease than die of AIDS, car wrecks, violent crimes, and natural causes all put together. 35% are children forced to breathe second hand smoke by smoking relatives.
The cost on the American tax payer in unpaid smoking related illness treatments is around 25 Billion dollars a year. You call it an "anti-smoking campaign", I call it a return to common sense and personal responsibility. Smokers are now in the minority (24% of the population), and soon they will be such a minority, the tobacco companies will be forced out of business, because mainstream America is tired of being held hostage by a few irresponsible people who do not care about their health or the health of others. These are facts that can been found on any website concerning the dangers of smoking, but some will always prefer to remain ignorant of the facts so they can continue to self-destruct in peace. Ignorance is not bliss, it is dangerous.
I am tired of discussing it now, you'll have to find someone else to play with.
He will no longer read my emails with further facts that dispute his, so I am asking that anyone reading this take a couple of minutes and email the jerk at: editor.pulse@sbcglobal.net

Wow! That guy really is an asshole! I emailed that editor like you asked and this is what I got back from him:
Pretty strong words by an illiterate redneck who hides behind the anonymity of an e-mail address. Everyone knows where to find me, and I do not apologize for telling the truth and informing people of the facts, which are useless to people like you who prefer to live in ignorance instead of enlightenment. People like you end up costing the rest of the population more than you are worth, and communicating with you is a waste of time, so this is my last word on the subject, please increase your intake of tobacco smoke so we will not have to put up with your illiterate, psycho-denial rhetoric much longer.
I would suggest everyone email this guy and let him know that the media is supposed to report news, not take sides! editor.pulse@sbcglobal.net |

Thanks, Carlos. Yeah, the guy is a real jerk! And would help tremendously if everyone who reads this contacts him with some "facts."
I'd love to see his inbox inundated with emails from people whose constitutional rights are being stripped from them by people like him! |

General Douglas Macarthur

Perhaps the little Master Bristow should study up on his own state history and contemplate where we might be without the efforts of his so called "irresponsible people."
You should forward all of his responses to Arkansas' own smoking son Rush Limbaugh...I bet he'd get a kick 
AND if you google his name you'll find this picture...looks like the poor fellow drinks a little...

Stop writing the editor - correspondence needs to go to the owner/parent company of the paper.
That's bad form - especially if you are a potential advertiser *wink* |

It's not the MenaStar...it's the Pulse as the email address indicates, and there is no parent company. Even if there was, I'm guessing the views of Ron Bristow, are the views of the paper.
Gee, NaptownKrabbi, wish you'd send what you posted here to Ron Bristow at the Pulse. He won't read anymore of my correspondence, because he doesn't want to know the "real" facts!
I can't believe he's plastered his picture on Facebook! Not even certain it's the same Ron Bristow.
Please, ya'll take a minute and drop him an email. The email address to the Pulse is listed in my original post.

The full name of the paper is "The Polk County Pulse" and it is in Mena, Arkansas.
Btw...I had no idea that you recently became the new site owner until now. Guess the "red" I was seeing through my correspondence with Ron Bristow, blinded me. Congrats to you and my best wishes for a successful run.
Strangely, you don't sound like a "redneck illiterate to me." lol |
