Phishing? You mean, am I after credit card or other sensitive information? No. I have no need for it. My company doesn't take credit cards anyway.
To be honest, I'm looking for customers.
As for advertising on free sites, there are quite a few online cigarette outfits getting free publicity here on this one.
Before I forget - thank you for looking up my corporate information. You now know that I'm no smuggling operation.
If your company doesn't take credit cards, why are you advertising here? Those that are getting "free publicity" are not being used...we may link through and look at their sites, but that doesn't necessarily mean we buy from them. We are NOT stupid. Or sheep. Or easily gulled.
If you are serious about helping us, get serious...don't be attacking regular posters on this board.

Smallbird:
One reason my company doesn't take credit cards is that I guarantee my customers' privacy. Ever wonder how states find out who's buying online cigarettes? The IRS did the same thing to find credit card holders who had ofshore bank accounts.
While I'm on the subject, I don't believe that smokers are stupid, nor are they sheep. As far as "attacking regular posters," who's attacking posters?
Gilster:
"Wanker"? Very clever. |

I know exactly how they do it. They contact the vendors and threaten them with with prosecution under the Jenkins Act unless they cough up their records on who bought what, how much they bought, and when they bought it.
What will you do when they come knocking on your door? |

And this has nothing to do with credit card records (well maybe a little), but it has a LOT to do with your customer lists, buddy! |

Absolutely! IMO, if the states only went after smokers who used credit cards, they'd miss out on a lot of revenue, since E-checks - rather than credit cards - have become a popular form of payment with many cigarette vendors.
Put enough pressure on the vendors through lawsuits or the Jenkins Act, and most will provide the names and addresses of their customers, sad to say.
Being that the states are now desperate for income, my guess is that while some state employees and contractors are having their hours cut, those working for the Dept. of Revenue are getting overtime. |

As someone who's been a victim in the past of both OTDirect and eSmokes, I know that they can only come after a person, not a delivery address. I was married back then, and most of the cigs were purchased with my then-husband's credit card (his name) and only a few were purchased by me with my card (my name.)
The tax bills (LOTS of them, from State, City AND County - separately!!!) arrived several YEARS later! We were divorced and thankfully, I wound up being accountable for only cigs purchased with my credit card; my NAME. Of course, all purchases were shipped to the same address -- because we shared an address. I was liable only for my purchases and he, for his. (I guess. I have not spoken to him since the divorce and his mail no longer arrived here when the tax bills were arriving.) He was "ADDRESSEE UNKNOWN - MOVED / RETURN TO SENDER"
My point is, only a person can be taxed -- not a delivery address. Therefore, if you buy a Visa giftcard (with cash) at a drugstore and had it issued to Joe Blow, Joe Blow can make online purchases with it. Joe Blow could also move at some point and be "ADDRESSEE UNKNOWN - RETURN TO SENDER"
I managed to quit smoking (don't hate! lol) ....... but I remain in favor of smokers' rights and have friends who still smoke. Actually, one of them is named Joe Blow.
... just sayin'! |
