Hi,
My name is Mike. I live in a condo in Maine. There is petition before out board to ban smoking on the entire campus including individual units. There is precedence in the state, so I am certain it can legally be adopted. As a non-smoker, I am concerned about preserving the liberties of my neighbors. The association is lax, and will blindly be scared into adopting the amendment. I am having trouble finding resources to rebutt research supporting this petition, or that might help me rally my neighbors to defeat this petition. Can you tip me off to some good resources?

There are two reasons for smoking bans and neither of them are about health.
1. Quarantine/isolate the smoker
2. De-normailize smoking
Smoking bans are a big step in that direction |

Mike, the best recommendation I can give you for the short term is to go to
http://encyclopedia.smokersclub.com/257.html
and download, print out, and read the free "Generic Stiletto" booklet you'll find there. While it doesn't address inter-condo issues directly it DOES show that even the supposedly much stronger claims about smoking in the same room with someone are basically built upon lies.
For the longer term, I'd recommend reading Sullum's, Don Oakley's, and my books, joining and signing up for the free Smokers Club newsletter, and joining and reading forces.org
