I send this e-mail to Frankfurt airport. Sorry for my English.
On 25/09/08 flying from Athens to Toronto I had to stay for 5 hours in frankfurt airport.
I do not disagree on banning smoking, but would be expected in the vast airport area to be even a bar for smokers where one might enjoy a coffee smoking a cigarette.
I felt great insult and humiliation as a European citizen when I realized that I had to be enclosed, as a criminal or animal, in these terrible cages.
I believe that those who inspired and those who adopted these cages of shame must be racists and fanatics ones and would be very happy if they were able to print a cigarette tattoo on smokers arm.
Aeolus' Bag has opened and after a few years should also construct such cages for those who will dared to drink a beer.
And for those who have sensitive nose I advise to pass through the area of the restaurants that stinks terribly.

Things are not so bad in Greece I think. Be prepared to be treated like a filthy animal in Toronto and throughout most of North America. You will not like it here. No decent person likes it here anymore.

I am dang sick and tired of being treated like a second class citizen because I enjoy my smokes! Back in the '50s and 60's it was cool to smoke, maybe it's not so cool anymore, however, why the h!@#$ are we being put out to smoke near the dumpsters almost anywhere we go. DUMPSTER'S are the new smoking area? What are they trying to say? That we are trash because we smoke? Because we pay taxes for their benefit while they treat us like trash? C'mon now, there can be a non-smoking section and a smoking section. These do-gooders are taking away all of our rights as Americans. It is supposed to be a 'free country'. HELLLLOOOOO!!!! FREE, how can we be free when we are allowing them to take away our rights? Let's take away their right to eat ice cream and see how they feel about it!!! Just because they don't smoke or don't like smoke does not mean that we have to give up smoking if we choose to smoke! Let's ban the ice cream parlors, the pancake houses, the shopping malls. Let's take something away from them, they might look at things a little differently. To all the do-gooder non-smokers, I don't tell you how to live, don't tell me how to live.

Oh my gosh, when I heard that a city in California wants to ban cigarette smoking outside, outside, outside???? in the fresh air....give me a break! Go home do-gooders and EAT YOUR ICE CREAM AND SHUT UP! You just wait until one day something you enjoy is taken away from you , then you tell me how you like it.

HELLLLLOOOO! Non smoker's claim they have their rights, well so do smoker's!

I will continue to smoke whenever and where ever I choose to, even if they arrest me. Most smokers I know are very courteous about not smoking around non-smoker's, not smoking in public places, why don't non-smokers have at a minimum, at the very least, that much consideration for smokers.

All I can say is non-smoking do-gooders are self-centered, self-serving, mental midgets with no respect for other people!

Get a grip! We live here too. Didn't your mama ever teach you how to share? compromise? respect? You know, common courtesy and morals?

Apparently not, smokem.

I was just invited to go to what looks like a fun conference in Hawaii which will be held in September. I respectfully declined, and I told the organizer why.

First, since I still smoke cigarettes, I don't fly on airplanes anymore.

Second, since Hawaii has their repressive "smoke-free" laws, I wouldn't have a good time.

I'll just stay home and enjoy my life, no stress.

Dear smokem,

Things are not YET so bad in Greece. However, as from 2010 things will be exactly the same, that is to say, no smoking in public, bars, restaurants, etc.

What do they expect us to do? Lock ourelves home or (even better) move to Egypt?

I am very disapointed to say that this is not a free world after all. And prohibiting smoking is just another confirmation. Is this called civilazation? Well, not for me. As non-smokers have rights, which I totally respect, so do smokers. The time when public places were devided into smoking and non-smoking areas was ok for all I guess. Well, a non-smoker would say that the smoke still bothers them. So why can't they just allow those who own restaurants or bars to decide whether the secific area that THEY OWN will be entirely smoking or non-smoking? why is that illegal?

Smoking is not a crime, it is not immoral, it is not drugs for God's sake!

PS - Pardon my english...

Are you saying in that post that some in Greece are proposing a ban to take effect in 2010, and/or that such a proposal did recently pass? That's sad to hear, since I was always hoping that one day, I could take a trip there. Especially with it being one of the few European countries that hasn't passed a stupid no-exceptions ban, along with countries such as Switzerland and Austria. *sigh*

Maybe Austria will continue to remain smoker-friendly(and a handful of other European countries), if the majority of European countries are stupid enough to bow down to anti-smoking hysteria. *ugh!* Especially if one poll I did read about European countries was correct in saying Austrian citizens were the most opposed of any European nations against a countrywide ban.....

Oh, yes! Unfortunatelly that's a fact. As from 2010 no smoking in Greece either. So if you were planning on visiting, I suggest you do that during 2009. Laughing

That's gonna be tough to enforce, in Greece - believe it. Like China, the Greeks have made smoking a nationwide cultural thing, and policing the ban will be ludicrous.

I've been to Athens a few times, and CRIPES! Just walking down the sidewalks is more life-threatening than anything else! Every fourth pavement brick juts out at an awkward angle, I was tripping all over the place - or observe the traffic around Athens, the drivers zoom around at light-speed! And then, when one of those "sacred canines" trots out into the road, all traffic comes to an excruciating halt - visit Greece, and you'll see public safety is largely ignored, it's a completely different culture there.

Count on the Greeks continuing to smoke, no matter what Very Happy

Laughing Yeah! the notice about traffic in Greece is quite true. Especially if you're used to another, more civilized way of driving. I've visited some cities, like Toronto or London for instance and things are completely different. We're probably the most stressed people in the world, believe me. However, if you visit Rome you'll see some really crazy driving Very Happy . Oh, and not all cities in Greece are like Athens. I have to agree that Athens is more like a nuthouse!

I also hope you're right about the banning enforcement. The truth is that it's not the easiest thing to do. We'll do our best!!
