Hi,
I just got started with RYO a month ago. I have tried Zig Zag, Rave, and Bali Shag, no bugs. I tried D&R Windsail Lights, excellent stuff that was the only thing I wanted to use after I tried it besides a Bali Shag as a treat at night. Well, I was rolling one up the 2nd day I had it and a tobacco flea beetle came out, jumping around all over the place! I caught it and got rid of it and emailed D&R CS. They told me this is common because of the humidity where the tobacco is grown and it might get worse in the UPS truck. They said all tobacco has the eggs in it but they usually don't hatch. Even Marlboros have eggs but they are treated with chemicals so it kills all the eggs so they won't hatch, every time you hear a pop it's an egg. Now, this really grosses me out, I hate bugs and I never knew about this until recently after smoking for years. I just wanted to know if anyone can confirm that all this is totally normal and happens with all tobacco to just make sure they weren't lying to me. They had told me to freeze it overnight and spray it with distilled water to rehydrate it. I don't want to use the same bag, Walmart sells something that looks like a fruit jar, could I keep the Winsail light in there? Thank you!

I have been rolling my own for over a year now and have NEVER once had such an experience. I've even used D&R Windsail Light also. Don't know what to tell you about that, but it would have freaked me out too.

Well, they gave me a 3.5oz for free because of what happened. The freezing ruined the tobacco though and I ended up throwing it away.

That never happened to me either and would have creeped me out too.

I've had pre-made commercial cigarettes 'pop' on me and always assumed they were bugs.

Lynda, I haven't seen them either with my loose tobacco, but mine/ours come in airtight sealed tins so maybe that's why.

Haven't had a 'snap, crackle or pop' either with the tobacco I'm using now.

I didn't know a thing about the bugs or eggs after smoking for 10 years. I just found out when I got the Windsail about this. I always thought it was a big piece of tobacco crinkling like firewood or something lol, wish I didn't find out.

From what I understand, this is something that can occur to any tobacco, especially in the summertime. I order from DnR all the time and have never noticed that either but can imagine your disgust......but hey, guess it must be fresh baccy. Wink

That makes sense, maybe eggs would need fresh air to hatch?

Lol fresh indeed. They do make good tobacco though, I've never seen a bug jump with so much energy! Seriously though, DnR tobacco has been the freshest I've ever tried besides my Bali Shag I have once a day.

I did get the big resealable bag of Windsail (CS told me the UPS truck could have helped too with the humidity) and I had the bag open a bit making the ciggs so that would do it. I haven't had this problem with the 3.5oz cup they sent me. But I feel a bit squeamish when I have any brand of tobacco in my hands now when I make ciggs wondering what I'm touching. But it will go away over time.
