Hi all. I'm another NY refugee. I just picked up the Premier Excel MYO machine, along with some Ramback tobacco, and Premier Light tubes. They also sent me some Gizeh Silver Tip tubes, because I bought a Gizeh cigarette container.
I'm a Camel Lights smoker, and while I don't need these to be an exact match or anything, I'm not quite happy yet.
The Ramback in the light tubes is way too mild, and the tubes are too hard to draw from. In the Gizeh (regular strength tubes), it's easier to draw but the taste is still way too mild. I can't explain it... feels like I'm missing a whole component of the flavor, and there's a dusty aftertaste.
Should I switch to Vengeur, or something else? Does the brand of the tubes matter, or is it just whether they are full flavor or light tubes really?
Thanks in advance. I know these are sort of noob questions. |

You, me and probably 99% of people find Ramback too light when smoked straight. When mixed with a hotter burning tobacco at 50% or less Ramback I think you'll see what its all about, makes everything better. It just doesnt burn hot enough by itself to release all its potential.
A good start at a Camel light would be around 20-30% Ramback and the rest Vengeur. Camels use less than 30% Turkish anyhow so straight Ramback wont really approximate that style. Many people mix it with almost everything else too, menthols, halfzwares...you name it.
Turkish tobacco is also the lowest in nicotine to start with so can be a bit less than satisfying in that regard as well. I bet when you find the right blend for your tastes you'll be blown away at how good it is though. |

That makes a lot of sense to me, because I am finding that the first drag is satisfactory and then gets progressively worse and worse until the smoke is finished. Since the first drag is also hottest, maybe the Ramback is burning cooler the rest of the time, and not getting me enough flavor. This is just a guess on my part.
Thanks very much for the information; I'm going to switch over to blending with Vengeur, and hopefully that will fix me up. Any suggestions on tubes? |

| Regarding what you said about nicotine, I just drove home that point for myself when I bought a pack of Drum on the way home. Put it in the excel and made a smoke, lit up. Immediate headrush. That's after driving myself nuts for a week, smoking straight Ramback. |

Glad that was some help Krib. For even more RYO related info, visit http://www.forum.ryorevolution.com . Everything you ever wanted to know about RYO but were afraid to ask.
As far as tubes, have you tried the new ZEN ES? Great tubes to begin with, in FF and Lights kingsize and 100's, AND you get 50 extra tubes for the same price as most others. Hard to beat em really! Happy smoking. |
