I just came onto this site and joined. I am desperate in trying to find the answers out there on why smoking has become such a hated and discriminated subject. I live in Missouri and i am a nurse. I just changed jobs to a hospital that is NON-SMOKING. They only hire non-smokers, and i am scared that i could get fired at any time for SMOKING ON MY OWN TIME. I make the sacrifice to not smoke during my 12 hour shifts, and not go to work smelling like smoke, but HOW CAN THEY DO THIS TO PEOPLE???????? I do NOT do drugs, I don't drink alcohol, i just like to smoke and I am not ready to quit. HOW can they force people out of work places for smoking, making their own choice???? It is going to start a discrimination campaign like no other in the USA. They claim that we cost more to insurance companies, I HARDLY GO TO THE DOCTOR. BUT the 300 pound nurse down the hall has hypertension, diabetes, vascular disease, etc. and they are not firing her!!!! PLEASE HELP. I just want to keep my job, support my family, and enjoy my time when i am not working, how can they control people like this???????????
Please tell me this will end soon and someone will sue an employer for wrongful firing and every company will have to change their discriminating policies!!!!!!! Sad
