Pure and simple. Raise your kids your way and I raised mine my way, smoking and all, and he is a very healthy 28 year old today.
I personally believe you shouldn't be allowed to have children until you pass a test that proves you can properly provide for the child and will properly raise him.......and I mean financially, mentally and emotionally..........would you like such a law in place? |

GIve'm HELL Linda! I absolutely agree. I raised my 2 while smoking in the house and car. They are now 41 and 37 years old, and healthy as horses.
People today are raising their kids to be Wussies. They don't even have to take responsibility for any of their actions. Then these freakin' parents wonder why kids today shoot each other, sell drugs on street corners. It's disgusting. |

My two kids are about the same age as yours, lady...both healthy...one decided to smoke the other didn't. The grew up in a household with both parents smoking. I don't see that we did such a bad job! Plus, our kids are both self-sufficient and not on welfare! |

My dad smoked when we would go on those long trips and I know what you mean about dodging the random ash, but to be completely honest grandamas dime a gallon smell good make me sick, like almost ready to throw up sick it stunk so bad. I'd choose the smell of smoke over the essance of Lilac, highly concentrated.
Soon we won't be able to fart in cars with children in there. I'm sure some scientist some where will explain why? |

| Here is my take on this for what it is worth. I grew up in a haze of smoke as did my brothers and sister. None of us has any repercussions from it. We are all now in our late 40's-early 60's, none of us have upper respiratory illnesses and rarely did as children. 2 of us still smoke and 2 of us have quit, as near as I can figure the ones that quit are NO healthier then the 2 of us that still smoke. My children have grown up inhaling our secondhand smoke,OMG, I really must be a terrible mother. According to all the info being bantered around my children should be the sickest children in town, however; I find it interesting to note that my children NEVER have upper respiratory illnesses, my 16 year old is probably the healthiest child I know. The kids in my town that are ALWAYS sick are the ones that live in protected non-smoking environments. Those children are always fighting off some bug or another. My oldest daughters boyfriend used to be sick all the time always coughing and had a cold or bronchitis, he grew up in a non-smoking environment; to be honest since he started hanging out in my house he rarely seems to be sick anymore. Maybe it is all that second hand smoke coating his lungs and protecting him from upper respiratory viruses. Anyway my point is that most of the kids I know that come from smoking households are rarely at the docor and rarely sick but those that are not exposed are always sick. Who is using up the health care dollars? I submit that by protecting our kids from everything is actually making them sicker, by allowing them to be exposed is helping them develope good healthy immune systems. Science has proven that all the new antibacterial products we are using today to protect us from being sick is actually producing viruses that are immune to the antibiotics that we have available to us. Please people don't protect your children from everything unless you want them to be sickly children as they grow up. |

Lynda. I usually don't engage in such rhetoric. But I feel the need to see a little bit of those that still feel burning at the stake should be brought back.
Saying, and worse! believing in, things such as: ''I personally believe you shouldn't be allowed to have children until you pass a test that proves you can properly provide for the child and will properly raise him.......and I mean financially, mentally and emotionally..........would you like such a law in place?'' is the reason these laws have to be placed in the first place.
You sound pissed. Too pissed to really contribute anything positive. Smoking aside, why don't you go to the child welfare services and huff and puff at them with your ''I own my child and can do with that child anything I want'' point of view. See what they have to say about your misinterpretation of your responsibility to raise a human being (not your child) properly. I am not talking about smoking either!
Everyone here, Please. I did not come here to this forum to be attacked. This kind of behavior is exactly why there is so much difficulty in trying to solve anything. If you want to ask me something or argue a point. I can do it. But It is un nerving and disapointing to be ganged up on and bullied. I saw this behavior in another thread. Someone by the screenname of notinmyeyes was carrying on with others in a grade school type fight. |
