Hi folks,
I'm a newbie on this forum but I'm a British writer and I've just finished a book about the history of anti-smoking from 1492-2007. It's called 'Velvet Glove, Iron Fist' and I've posted 6 chapters online plus 2 extra pdfs about passive smoking. It's not yet been published and I would welcome any comments from those who have the time to take a look.
The URL is www.velvetgloveironfist.com
Thanks
Chris |

Thanks for the post chris, and welcome to the forum. I'm a resident in Denmark (antis are getting stronger here too), and we appreciate efforts such as yours; thank you for so generously including some chapters for us to read! |

| Ooooh, I definitely wanna sit down and read those chapters from your soon-to-be book, when I have some free time. Thanks for giving all of us here the heads-up that you're writing a book on this subject, and I'll also welcome you to smokinglobby, too! |

Well! I just wrote three paragraphs in praise of this book and got thrown off the website when I hit "Submit".
So, no more long-winded posts. Just READ THIS BOOK! It is GOOD STUFF. |

Well, that post submitted successfully. I'll try again.
Mr. Snowden's prose is lucid and dispassionate, his reporting is meticulous, and his research is awesome. For "Appendix A. The Evidence for the Passive Smoking Theory" he has READ and evaluated the over 60 ETS/lung cancer spousal studies published, from Hirayama in 1981 to the present, and gives us a clear, easy to read description and critique of each one. That alone is worth the price of the book when it is published.
This book is a fabulous weapon for the pro-choice tobacco activist.
Don't wait until you have spare time. READ IT NOW. Put the link on your blog and spread the work. It is a great tool. |

After reading (and raving about on this forum) the sections on "The Passive Smoking Theory" and Appendix A (the 63 study list), I've gone to the front of the book and started reading it in sequence from Chapter 1 and on. So far have finished Chapter 3. Reading from a computer screen makes me cross-eyed.
These chapters present much that I have read, in piecemeal fashion, elsewhere plus much that is new. Essentially, it seems to be all the history available, but now compiled in one text so it is easily accessible. I have tried to do something of the sort for my own use for speaking points before a city council. Chris Snowdon has done it for me. Bless him!
I do not know Mr. Snowdon. I have no connection with selling or publishing books. I have simply found something good and I am telling the world. |
