Hi all!
Was interested in making my own cigarettes. I understand it would be hard to duplicate the exact cigarettes I am smoking now. Which are Basic Light 100's. But if someone could point me in the right direction as what I should be looking at as far as types of tobaccos.

Also I was curious about the whole buying online thing. Is it not a good idea to buy online? It would be easier for me to do it that way.

Well this is just some initial stuff I was thinking about! Just wanted to break the ice and say Hi to everyone.

Thanks!

Hi Sig,
Welcome to the forum...lots of good stuff here on MYO/RYO, please read through all the threads.

I was smoking Monarch Ultra Lights [generic Winstons] The reason I switched to MYO was the chemical additives in pre-mades and not necessarily the price. I think your Basics are Marlboro generics....

I dabbled in a few different tobacco's but set my sights on American Spirits for the chemical thing [and any other natural I can get my hands on]

MYO cigs are stronger, biggest reason is the tubes - most have inferior filters [that I see] many here use tar blocking tips, etc. to cut the strength. It took a week to get used to the strength and difference in taste - but I figured if I didn't like real tobacco I'd might as well quit - because there's some funky stuff in the pre-mades [ever rip one apart?]

Buy a Supermatic or Topomatic [my fav so far] injector - will run you around $50 - but will pay for itself in a couple of cartons [your mileage may vary]

I am internet tax paranoid -so I stick to local stores that carry supplies and buy in bulk and in cash.....sooner or later they'll get around to grabbing the tax on internet MYO too IMHO.

Welcome to the world of MYO - you'll never go back.

Hey Sig,
Heres some info to get you started:
http://www.cigarettetobacco.com/index.htm has some of the best (and affordable) tobaccos online.
http://myo.dalrun.com/Whats_New/ will help you decide which ones you want to try, as well as a plethora of static info on machines, tubes, and different tobaccos, and of course this site.
Gilster is correct, once you try MYO, it will be difficult to go back. The quality of smokes you can make blows away any premades, period! Between this site and the MYO forum, you ll be bombarded w/ all the info you could ever want. Of course you can get an early start by going to your local tobacconist, getting a cheap handheld stuffer($10-15), and an assortment of tobaccos (another $10-15) there (most tobacconists carry Stokkebyes, an excellent start) and finally some tubes. Good luck, and feel free to pick all of our brains when needed! Wink

Ah, you are correct, that ll be good for a couple days! Just take the reviews w/ a grain of salt. lol. I should also say to Sig, that while I highly recommend Peter Stokebbyes tobaccos, its not the easiest to stuff for a newbie. Wasnt thinking about that, but do yourself a flavor, stay away from any selections that rhyme w/ Pop or Rambler! Laughing

Wow! Thanks for all the responses!

Looks like I have some more reading to do.
I don't want to beat this to death or nothing. But what I was thinking as far as ordering online. Is just initially starting up with the Machine and some tobacco until I can get out and find a good shop to buy from.

Not to sound like a goof but the more i read about ordering online the more I feel like I am breaking the law or something LOL.

I would have thought that when you buy online that the tax they take out is enough!

From what I am reading sounds like the Topomatic would be a good choice as I would like to stay with 100's.

I do like the idea of maybe getting a handheld first since there not that much. Doesn't seem like a bad idea then you have something handy later on when you upgrade or a machine breaks.

Any experiences on HH's that are good for 100's. I'm reading up on those now.

Thanks again for the long responses. Gonna get back to reading!

I dont make 100's myself, but afaik, the Maiker 100 seems like a good one. The Top is real popular as well as the Supermatic C, and they both make 100's. The Excel is really popular too, and costs a bit less. Regardless whether you buy a crank or not, you ll probably want an HH as well. Well good luck to you, I m sure you ll enjoy this, once you get the hang of it!

Well now that I think of it maybe I really don't need 100's. If I have control over how tight it is packed etc etc. Might be able to find a spot where it lasts just as long.
But just a thought!

I'm also guessing a good philosophy would be don't worry about duplicating the pre-made that I smoke just find the new one that I make and like. Very Happy

Think I mighta found some stores but gonna call first and see what kinds of things they have!

Well just wanted to update some of things I am learning.

Thanks!
