I'm interested in building a list of places in IL that are eitha smoker-friendly, or the owners are simply ignoring the bans and letting people light up (as those smokers SHOULD do).

If anyone came across any businesses that are ignoring the smoking ban and businesses that openly permit smoking in IL please send info of these businesses to me at:

cooljay786@gmail.com

I was thinking of building the list as a seperate blog page.

I just posted two smoker-friendly places within Chicago in my blog.

Be careful what and where you post such a list -- better make sure some anti's don't get the list and start trying to organize raids ...

BWilliams is right. If you post names, they will be visited by the State of IL narc squad. It happened at Sully's downtown.

A butch dike cop from the state of IL had her lipstick chick sitting at the bar with a cell phone watching the customers going into the old cigar lounge. One phone call and the cop was on the premises, screaming that she was going to arrest everybody in the place. Glad I wasn't there but my buddy was. He said it was ugly and overkill.

Ditto that - don't post it on an message boards or forums.

Stick to Private Message and e-mails to one person at a time.

I know of a bunch of speakeasy situations where I am but I'm not telling even smokers I know that barely frequent the places...

I've studied a list of Ohio businesses that allow smoking that I found online. Antis are gonna have a hard time organizing raids for every single place I found so far. But some ppl in IL have been asking me where are the best places to smoke at.

I doubt every anti knows of my blog.

While I wouldn't post this info on a forum or group....I'd think anyone can still find it through a Google search. Unless I make it a private list.

That's the snitch-list, they'll get around to checking all of those places.

Please don't create a 'snitch-list' on-line... many of us want to know where the speakeasies are but far too many antis do too...please keep it off your blog - people may not know where it is but now will search for it for info - and not the people You WANT to find your blog...

~edit~
At the least, please don't do this for Peoria just now.

I actually get the point. I will NOT do it. Although one smoker in my blog said a list is a good idea. He just thinks the safety of those people in the places is far more important....meaning I shouldn't put up a list like that anywhere.

Yeah...that was me, Jay. I didn't mean to be a wet blanket, but I think such things are best left on IM, direct email, and word of mouth. And even then, you hafta be careful

These "smokeasies" may give some of us a place to enjoy a smoke with our beverage in comfort but they do absolutely nothing to rectify the real problem. They may even make it worse.

Sure, we feel like we're beating the ban but news footage of smokers being thrown in the back of a squad will only exemplify the image painted of us by the antis as being pathetic addicts.

If these establishments had any real balls at all they could bust the ban wide open within a couple weeks by doing their civic duty which would be to defy the disrespectful and unjust bans en-masse and squarely in the antis faces.

Sneaking around only justifies the bans in many peoples minds.

Absolutely, but I won't harm the business by breaking the 'stupid law' - I will harm the business by not going there...and will frequent the 'speakeasy' and do no harm - it's up to the business to go for it - I'm not paying their mortgage...

I will not make it known that a business allows smoking unless that business welcomes that info out to the public.

So right, sneaking around does justify the ban, but for now it's what many of us have left. And it sucks.
