Was waiting in line in my neighborhood gas station last night to buy two lottery tickets for my Brother. Guy ahead of me wanted cigarettes, was asked for his ID. He didn't have it, was refused, went out swearing, insisting he was 28 (which I suspect was true, but-). The guy that works at the station told me when I asked for cigars that I had to show ID (I'm in my sixties). After showing it, he informed me of the following: The ATF has started a MASSIVE sting operation in oHEILo. They can be, and will be, to the point of sitting outside a place of business for hours at a time. They can and will grab any person at random (people in their sixties included) that they see leaving with tobacco products , and ask them to see their ID. If they cannot or will not provide one, they will be escorted back inside the store, forced to give said tobacco products back, get their money refunded. Said clerk will then be instantly fined 5000 dollars, more for the store or company, and said place of business will be instantly closed down by the government. Remember-this includes those like me, who are retired, in their sixties, obviously not kids, etc. Get ready for the gestapo, because it's here. The excuse is to be used, of course, it's 'for the children', to keep them from gettin hold of tobacco products. That's a lie, of course, and it's to both further persecute smokers and make some money for the state at the same time. Memos have been sent to virtually every place in the state that sells tobacco products , according to the guy who informed me-he personally read it. |

| I am getting pretty sick of the %##^&!@(* children. Any ban or oppressive law can be passed by claiming it will 'save the children'(scrill, patronizing voice). |

If anyone think someone in his 60s doesn't look old enough to buy tobacco, I'd beat the living sheet outta that person who picked me at random.
I wouldn't mind spending time behind bars for beating up a dumba** smoking nanny. Maybe most smokers in their 60s don't have IDs because anyone with a high school diploma can look at the person and can tell he/she is WELL over 18. |

| Hey, nice (the avatar)! The state pulled this $hit a few years ago, and forced every gas station/convenience store to card EVERYONE, just because they were scared. Now-there are folks who are older and don't carry ID all the time, and as OI said, it's nothing more than further harrassment of adult smokers. |

I was carded last week buying a beer (left my wallet in the truck)
If a nice young feller (30-40 yr. old) hadn't bought it for me the store would have missed a sale.
My question of "I've been buying beer here for over 20 yr wouldn't that assure you that I was over 21?" Was answered by its the law and I can't sell it without an ID.
I wish him luck in the future --- but he'll do it without me for a customer.
Dark,
Me thinks" it's nothing more than further harrassment of adults"
Does anyone know how this stupid schit got started?

Nobody is asking me for ID at Covington Tobacco in Covington, KY. So it has not crossed the river yet.
About 10 years ago Ohio agents used to come to N. Kentucky, watch for people with Ohio license plates to buy cigarettes or booze, then follow them across the river to Ohio and arrest them. Covington and Newport took care of that problem by making it illegal to come their cities and do that. |
