I have watched over the years how smokers now apologize for smoking and go to tell everyone how "they wish they could quit". All too many are busy kissing the butts of those who put their nose in their personal business. Everytime a town or city has a no-smoking ban which effects places of business, we, as a society, have lost part of our freedom. Making a legal activity illegal in a private business is stomping on the rights of others. Regardless how one feels about smoking, this is not right. Of course, we've seen this country jump on the seat belt laws and then into the air bag thing. Seems a MINORITY can make and control laws that interfere with the life and liberty of the majority. Once they get their OPINIONS pushed into the school system, there is no hope.

Smokers can effectively change things. When you walk into a restaurant that has put into effect "no smoking on week-ends between x and x hours or no smoking on week-ends", WALK OUT after telling them why. This is the beginning of no smoking bans in most towns. Walk out and try to get others to do the same. Also, even if it's your very favorite restaurant, DON'T spend your money there. The restaurant owner has the right to determine whether or not he wants a no-smoking restaurant but the idea of changing his rules from one day to the next is insane. If your money isn't wanted 7 days a week, then don't give it at all. The most important thing is to tell management how you feel. As long as smokers accept the "partial ban", everyone knows they'll accept the full ban without a fight and that's how we end up with no-smoking towns. It's usually not that the majority of the people want this but that only a minority expresses themselves loudly enough to be heard.

You have a right to expect people who are SERVING YOU to be interested in your comfort. There is no need to apologize for your request.Crazie

Laughing I agree, I also see people apoligizing for smoking, and it makes me mad. Do they do the same for drinking, driving, crossing the street, ect.? These are also things that are dangerous to your health. I feel that if I have to apoligize for something, I shouldn't be doing it in the first place, in which case I would quit doing it. I smoke because I want to smoke. And I take full responsibility for everything that it involves. I have several family members, including my parents, that have died from cancer. Not all types of cancer are caused by smoking. And I am convinced that the air that I breath (because of pollution) is as dangerous to me as my smoking. So until I find a way to survive without breathing, I will continue to smoke. And I will not apoligize for it.
