Hard to tell sometimes from a news story but it sounds to me like authorities in Bolton, UK may be trying to cut a backroom deal with Mr. Hogan in an effort to keep him quiet......but he's not biting.

Snips:
"....the landlord of The Swan and Barristers pubs in Bradshawgate failed to turn up to a meeting at his own pub with environmental health officers yesterday."

"Mr Hogan has since refused to attend any interview under caution and repeatedly called for the council to take him to court so his views could be aired publicly."

We need more..... a lot more like him. If even...say....30-40% of pub owners took this stance, on either side of the pond, the unjust bans would be crippled beyond repair.

Runamok,
".....I've got a bridge in Minneapolis I'd like to sell you...."

Is it
partially disassembled and ready to ship?
---have you figured freight on it? Wink

Since there is no tea to toss in the bay ---- it's the "Hogans" and "roof top" votes that are gonna get-r done

Ya gotta love this guy.

Snip:
"Hogan also threw out environmental health officers when they tried to issue him with a £2,500 fine for allowing smoking to continue at the Swan."

He's getting his court date now. Should be interesting to see how he argues this thing.

Man, Mr. Hogan is such a fregging hero. I'm glad the English environmental/public health officials who want to force the countrywide smoking ban on him didn't get their way, and that he isn't giving in to them(the health officials) that easily.

Yay for him getting a court date, that's all I gotta say! Twisted Evil Very Happy

Hell yeah, I'm glad to see he's still disobeying the smoking ban!! I definately know too that if I were to go to the part of England where his bar is, I'd definately pay him a visit, and thank him for standing up to the anti-smoking arseholes!

A new twist.

http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/display.var.1658919.0.battle_over_right_to_run_rebel_smoking_pub.php

Seems Mr. Hogan is not (and never was) the owner of the two pubs.

Snip: Mr Miller (the new owner) has vowed to stop regulars from smoking in the two venues, in Bradshawgate, when he takes ownership on September 21.

Sounds like this could get messy. Nick may never get his day in court.

Smoke rebel’s day in court
By Staff Reporter

REBEL landlord Nick Hogan has appeared before Bolton magistrates to face charges of defying the smoking ban.

Mr Hogan pleaded not guilty to five counts of failing to prevent people from smoking in his pubs and four of obstructing council officers.

The licensee of The Swan and Barristers pubs in Bolton town centre will now face a trial, which will start on November 12.

He said: "I have entered a not guilty plea because I'm not committing any criminal offences. I'm not doing anything wrong.

"We inform everyone who comes into The Swan and Barristers that it is illegal to smoke in our premises."

If Mr Hogan is found guilty, he could face a fine of £16,500 - £2,500 for each of the smoking offences and £1,000 on the obstruction charges.
