Add El Cajon, CA (just east of San Diego) to Calabasas and Belmont.

On July 24 El Cajon presented a smoking ordinance lifted verbatim from the Calabasas Municipal Code. Smoking is banned in ALL places, indoors and outdoors, open to the public, including sidewalks, street and parking lots, plus too much else to list here.

Allowing, aiding or abetting illegal smoking carry the same penalties as smoking. "Private enforcers" (any person acting for the interests of the general public) are given the same powers as the city attorney to bring legal action against an illegal smoker or abettor.

Except that the city attorney must deposit the resulting penalities into the El Cajon general fund: The "private enforcer" gets to keep the money for himself. This is a cash cow for a snitch.

Seems like this amounts to government paid informants, or informing on fellow citizens for profit. Pretty disgusting. It certainly is reminiscent of Nazi Germany, isn't it......

Belmont temporarily tabled its draconian ordinance after nation-wide media exposure and Email (and local citizen) outcry. The Calabasas ordinance, copied by El Cajon almost word for word from Section 2 on, can be read at www.cityofcalabasas.com. The final El Cajon City Council vote is due in August.

My own little city sits right next to El Cajon and the Nazis are coming for ME next! Help me, people! Don't just sing to the choir, Email Mayor Mark Lewis at www.ci.el-cajon.ca.us with your comments.

linkup, I am an analog person in a digital world. How do I get El Cajon listed as a Forum topic? And how else do I scream for help?

Oops! Corrected information on the Belmont ban:

On June 12 Belmont City Council discussed the proposed smoking ordinance again. The city attorney was instructed to conduct research on questions brought up at the meeting and to draft the ordinance.

At this point smoking WILL be banned in apartments and condos.
It WILL NOT be banned on sidewalks and streets except at special events. The notorious "private enforcer" clause has been eliminated. Date of the next discussion and vote was not announced.

Excellant meeting minutes can be read at www.belmont.gov.

Maybe its time to banish all the socialists from Neveda, Arizona, and all parts east to Kalifornia and all freedom loving people in Kalifornia can head east. Then lets just give Kalifornia back to Mexico. If Mexico wants it that bad they can have it.

The one that really takes the cake in Kali is that one of its cities is sueing its suburbs because of urban sprawl. I wish I had a link to post. I can just see this trend spreading. New York City (Bloomberg) sueing the state of Conn.

It's scary that in some article I read awhile back about Arizona's recently-increased cig tax(now $2 in that state), that some people were buying cigs in California, to protest the cig hike there.

All I know, is that I would NOT ever dream of buying cigs in California(of all states!), and would instead buy my cigs in New Mexico or in Nevada, if I were someone who lived in Arizona(probably more likely in the latter, since the smoking ban in Nevada is looser than New Mexico's ban).

OR, if you have no car (like me), do what I do.................don't buy cigs at all. Make your own.

And I'm getting information on growing my own now too, as I feel even loose tobacco will be over-taxed when they see ready-made cig sales drop.
