| FDA regulation of cigarettes is an interesting topic. Philip Morris is really being the government's pet on all tobacco issues including this one. They wouldn't be able to sell Marlboro's anymore, because they have the most chemicals of any regular flavor cigarette. I don't even think Canada allows them because of the high chemical content. The only Americn cigs I ever saw in Canada were winstons and other RJ Reynolds brands. I was told this was because Canada doesn't allow the chemical additives that the US does. Now it's all coming together for me. I believe the reason why Philip Morris is against cig advertising, under 21 smoking, online cigarette sales, smoking in public, etc. is so they can be the only legal cigarette company. Philip Morris will gladly be the first one to give up their chemical additives without a fight. Then they will apply for FDA approval of cigarettes as a drug and be the only one who's able to distribute cigarettes for 20 years or something like that. Once they have exclusive distribution rights to cigarettes, they can make them as nasty as they want. There's no doubt in my mind that they'll stop using turkish tobacco and replace all their cigs with the cheaper, harsher American tobacco to cut costs. After all, the FDA would just regulate the chemicals in cigarettes not the tobacco. Let's don't fall for Philip Morris being all nice; they are evil. Not everyone's evil there, but at least the officers are. I know Bill got a nice customer service rep on the phone. PM probably hires nice people whoi don't smoke or study tobacco issues. Nothing against that customer service rep. |
