Okay, all the Applebee's in Ohio, Indiana, Arizona and a couple other states have decided at the end of May they will BAN SMOKING. This same restaurant advertises Happy Hour Drink Specials all the time.
Next time I go to Applebee's (if ever), I will go outside to smoke and then leave so they are forced to raise their prices for the anti-smokers to pay for!  |

| That's great Libby. I understand how you might "forget" to pay the bill or tab if you are forced to go outside to smoke in the middle of your meal. I wonder if this has been happening in New York yet. Does anyone know. |

That's a good idea from Libby. After all, if I go to a non-smoking restaurant, eat my meal, and go outside for a smoke, they can't catch me if I light up, and run away.
In a place like Applebee's, we SHOULD get "free meals" if we can't smoke inside. *evil LOL* |

I'm fighting with a few people on that other board I mentioned about this particular issue. There's one guy on there who agrees with a smoking ban, something about his kid has asthma. So I replied to him by asking why he is taking his child into a restaurant that serves alcohol? There are plenty of McDonalds and other places that are smoke and alcohol free for kids. I got pretty nasty with him.
I was also reading on the New York Clash website and I saw info about candles are worse than ETS and when you cook meat the fat produced a petroleum that lodges into your lungs and certain veggies will produce the dreaded CONTININE in your urine!
So I told the guy if he burns candles in his house or cooks meat in his house that he is abusing his child and should give it up for adoption.

Libby Liberty,
The owner of the Applebee's franchise that is going smoke free in several states is also the vice-mayor of Lexington-Fayette Co KY and he was the main driving force in getting a county wide indoor smoking ban, probably the strictest ban in the country in the burley tobacco capital of the world. He is probably the most hated person in this city right now, bars are devestated, his argument was "i can't make applebee's smoke free in lexington uless all places are smoke free, we need to be on a level playing field". Well I support his right to make his business smoke free, but he also banned workers from smoking at work, even if off the clock and on break (I would be fired from there in one night, I'd get mean by the end of a ten hour shift w/o a smoke break) but to me this argument reminds me of communism, not capitalism. When ever has capitalism been about level playing fields?? Sorry about the local post angle, I am just so hot that a major tobacco city with a smoking rate of near 38% let this ban get through. I am almost embarrassed by it.

| Wow, Lexington KY. Who would have ever thought. That's terrible. I would be embarrassed too if I was from there. It's too bad that the government in your city is for a ban. What's next, an indoor ban in Richmond, VA, LOL. Your city was a great example of smokers freedom right behind Richmond. It's a darn shame. I promise never to go to Applebees again. I've been there 2 weeks ago in NJ; I use to love their shrimp dinners, but it's not worth it's smoke free. It's a disgrace that one assh0le is taking smokers freedoms away in an entire city just for his own business. I do think that you can fight this thing though; lots of angry bartenders and businessmen can make a pretty strong point. If you put a bunch of angry bartenders and burley farmers up to fight, they can make a difference. These are some physically fit people. I think a city like yours has the best shot of repealing a smoking ban, and it can be a benchmark for other repeals nationwide. You can make a difference. The burley industry is an amazing force that we don't have here in the northeast. |
