LOL - yes, I added a "naughty words" filter. It was brought to my attention that the site would become blacklisted from the big search engines if it had curse words on it, so I figured it was in our best interest to tone down the bad words.

It is true that this is censorship, which I am against, but at least I can still say I will censor no thoughts or ideas, just 4-letter words. So you can either use cartoon expressions to emote cursing - #&$^@%! or simply let the filter take its toll ...

It is true - Google in particular will remove your "pagerank" (an important part of being listed in their search) if it finds objectionable words on your website. And since I am trying to increase awareness and membership in the forum, I unfortunately have to play bu their rules.

Which brings up another problem - About 90% of all visitors coming from search engines to this site come from Google. From what I've read, that is fairly common on the net. Sounds to me like Google can pretty much control what people search for on the internet with huge numbers like that ... only a matter of time before they decide to start "banning" search terms ...

I suspect you're right but I really don't think Google or Yahoo or anyone else else would do it on their own. It will happen because of pressure from the gov't......for our own good.

There's lots of gov't power brokers that are positively itching to slap a pile of regulations on the internet and the use of it. It's driving them crazy....millions of people with access to millions of other peoples thoughts and ideas at the touch of a button. They feel like they're losing "control".

That pesky First Amendment you know. Would be interesting to know how many members of Congress would secretly like to repeal portions of, or even the entire Bill of Rights.

Too late, McCain-Feingold was the first shot across that bow. That quashed a good bit of specifically free political speech.

Really a good poster child for the law of unintended consequences....
