"Fully enclosed" smoking rooms would be allowed in restaurants and bars under a version of the statewide ban that cleared a House subcommittee last week.

A House subcommittee voted 4-1 last week for an amendment that would let restaurants keep smoking rooms on two conditions: The rooms must have separate ventilation systems and employees must be able to choose whether to enter them.

Rep. Ed Butler, a Democrat from Hart's Location, said he thinks his amendment is a "reasonable and narrow compromise" that protects public health while providing an option to smokers and businesses

I don't think they said smoking rooms couldn't serve alcohol. In fact, I think this is a step forward. What's to stop a bar owner from saying their entire establishment is one big smoking room? Drink/work here and smoke or get the hell out.

What about the small Mom-and-Pop restaurants and bars (which are the only ones I'd frequent if I lived there anyway)_? They wouldn't be able to afford to construct these rooms/areas-and the Nazis know it.

By the way-I thought the statewide ban in NH had just been voted down about a week ago-how the hell did it come back to the foreground so damn fast-as if it never left?
