Not too bad. But yesterday I bought a McClintock set of a tube filling machine, 2 oz. of tobacco, and 200 tubes. But me being loyal to my tastes, I also bought a 5.29 oz. can of American Spirit tobacco. I'm close friends with the owner of the store, and he gave me a demo of how to make these, and he told me that that one can of American Spirit will make about two cartons, give or take a bit depending on how you much you pack into the tubes. Now the can was about 11 bucks... two cartons of American Spirit would be close to 90 bucks. Cost of everything I mentioned above? 20 dollars. I'm still stunned.
As for the taxation... I live in Pennsylvania, NE, so I have no alternate places besides the internet (New Jersey taxes the [doodee] out of tobacco, and last I heard New York isn't too cheap either), so I may have to just deal with the few more cents. To tell you the truth, I'm not totally pissed off. Besides (for us in PA), Rendell has started to put casinos in Pennsylvania. We won't turn into any Nevada, but the amount of money made from the casinos will lower our other taxes considerably, which may or may not equal out the extra taxes on tobacco. But that's just my 2 cents.
Hi GraceofBaal...Glad you made the money saving switch. Have you registered at American Spirit website? They send out nice coupons.
I'll post the link if you need it. |

Congratualtions on the move! As far as packs per container of the bulk. Figure about 20 grams per pack. That American Spirit is arind 148 grams so you should get around 7.5 packs from the 5.3 ounces. You bought in PA. PA is the only state at this time that does not have an excise tax on cigars, smokeless or smokers tobacco. About 30% min of the present cost is due to the MSA. An excise tax is part of Fat Eddies new budget. The cost is 36 cents per ounce per dollar whole sale. For example that Amercian Spirit you bought for around $11. Lets just for figure the shop got it $8 (not actual just an example)or around $1.50 per ounce, the new excise tax will be 54 cents an ounce($2.82 a tin)to the shop owner which will be passed on to the consumers. The price will also be bumped for paper work etc. That $11 a tin will become at least $15 by the end of the year. PA has been a huge market for smokeless, smokers tobacco and cigars in some border areas like New Jersey, Eastern NY and Ohio. This will be lost with the new excise taxes. Maybe you might want to stock up before the 50% increase.
The gambling money has been committed to education and property tax relief not to mention hockey arenas in Pittsburgh and Philly. Don't hold your breath for tax relief those estimates are bloated as all government projections are. |
